Hi all,
Having Attic Stairs installed. Normally I would just get a few quotes but with the way things are it is hard to get anyone out to do work in a reasonable amount of time. I got a quote of $400 to supply and install Attic stairs in the garage is this a reasonable price?

Eleven years ago the going rate was $250. I think your quote sounds pretty reasonable.

Sounds reasonable for a high quality aluminum ladder version, you can see material prices at Lowe's and Home Depot, and you might be able to get installation quotes from them also.

Mine was done for $350 about 2 years ago by the same folks who epoxied my garage floor. They also (for a few bucks extra) put down plywood over the beams around the steps so what I put there wouldn't fall through the garage ceiling. For me the steps turned out to be kind of useless since there was VERY little accesible storage space due to the way the roof beams were placed. So yes, $400 sounds reasonable.
Edit: There are many types of steps. Some for $135 and somne for $300 so that should be part of the comparison.

The price seems more than reasonable. Lowes and Home Depot sell the aluminum stairs for around $250. Would you buy it, take it to your home, and install it for $150.00...? Good work in not cheap and cheap work is not good.
Note......beware of the many gutter companies that install these on the side. The manufacturer says you MUST use either 16D common nails, or 3" Lag screws, or else it voids the warranty. You must use 10 of them. They typically include the Lags with the unit. Gutter companies wrongly use gutter screws...NOT rated for this use. It voids the warranty. Go with a company that does it correctly. Tim Miller's company is one of the few that DOES install these correctly.

There is another system which is electric powered and far more expensive, like 4,000. Storing stuff up there. It is not climate controlled-hot. Also, the floor is designed for limited weight. I'm sure the villages offices can tell you how much it is designed to hold. |

$400 for aluminum stairs and labor is cheap! The villages charges $800 to have it done before you close on your new constructed home.
The local guy I know does it for $500. |

I had a pull down ladder installed and 2 4' x 8' sheets of plywood put down to store things on for $500 two years ago. $400 sounds reasonable to me.

Probably reasonable. I bought aluminum from Home Depot for about $200 and installed them myself. Took about 2 hours for me - likely less than an hour for a pro.

Call Stipes Gutters. Jim installs aluminum stairs for $360. ($340. Unpainted) and he does a great job.

That's who quoted me 400. I canceled and I am rethinking installing them since I likely will store anything up there
