Villages Blues: A Synopsis of Common Complaints. A song
Villages Blues: A Synopsis of Common Complaints, drawn from Talk of the Villages
Sing it in any key, or none. A dog lives in my neighborhood that does its business on my lawn. Every morning at the break of day, a new brown pile upon my lawn. I complained once to the owner—he laughed and told me to be gone. I was driving in my golf cart, going twenty miles an hour. Had the pedal to the metal, speed limit twenty miles an hour. Some guy honked, gave me the finger, and yelled to get a cart with power. There’s a white cross in my neighborhood—how I wish it would go away. People know it shouldn’t be there, but they plant it anyway. I’ve filed complaints but no one listens, so I fear the cross will stay. I went to buy a cup of coffee—there were ten people in the line. I only saw a single server—and “Help Wanted” on a sign. Freeloaders don’t like working when government checks pay for their wine. I like my white skin brown, but I’d like your brown skin white. My permit lets me carry, but I don’t want a fight. Please don’t give me a DUI when I weave home at night. I like my golf course green, but it has turned to gold. There are gators, snakes, and gophers, high humidity, and mold. The doctor says there’s too much of me, and my mind is growing old. The Villages will end someday when it reaches to Key West. Florida’s swamps will fill with villas, native sons be thought a pest. And all snowbird up-northers will head south to make their nest. |

It’s a blues song. They don’t generally have regular rhythm and meter, but a varying number of syllables fit into a standard twelve bar three chord pattern.

I enjoyed this, but I would take issue with some of your more "racial" lines. I don't see that from anyone that I've run into. That said, let me try responding with a limerick, which is far more my speed:
There once was a man who did flee; To Naples, to be by the sea; He had his first hurricane; It nearly fried his brain; He cried "It's the inland Village's now, for me!" Last edited by Battlebasset; 05-10-2023 at 08:00 AM. Reason: Additional info |

So whose fault is it?
I bought a house next to an entertainment venue & then complained about the music volume. I bought a house next to a busy road and then complained about the traffic noise. I bought a house where the golf cart path is shared with speeding cars on a busy street & then complained about it being dangerous. I bought a house next to a retention pond & then complained about alligators. I bought a house in a for-profit developing community & then complained about expansion. I bought a house in a community of 150k residents who share 3 entertainment stages & then complained that the squares are too crowded. I believed everything the real estate agent said, didn’t do any due diligence & then complained I was lied to. I bought a house where the paths are shared with walkers, joggers, bicycles, & carts & then complained about not restricting the paths to my chosen activity. I bought a house in a community with a huge percentage of snowbirds & then complained about them. I bought a house in a community that allows rentals & adults under 55 & then complained about it. I bought a house in an area known to have heavy traffic & then complained about the traffic. |
