Default The Villages High School Basketball

Read in the paper this morning that the high school basketball team has quite a record going for them. Some changes must have been made to go from last year's record to the present undefeated season. Wow!

Earlier this season it was said they were being investigated about two transfers from Gainesville.
Nothing else has been said, so I guess everything was legit.

Actually it was three transfers (account for about 80% of the scoring). Not sure if they have been "officially" cleared yet. I have a friend that writes for the Banner who seems to think it is still being "investigated." His impression is that it is legit but just not finalized yet.

They are 19-0. They play Ridgewood Tonight. They are from New Port Ricthey. This is a home game.
Yes they were being looked at by the FHSAA. Not sure if completed, but it is about time they go and are able to get more kids to play and attend the school here. Trinity Catholic in Ocala recruits like not tomorrow. So not surprised to see most other schools in a uproar about it. I can understand the Gainsville Schools being upset, they lost their best scoring players to us.
It is great to see them palying so good.

Some people who follow the basketball program say that morse gave jobs to 4 families from gainsville and orlando and their sons just happen to be good basketball players. Nothing illegal apparently, but no coincidence they all happen to be very good players who are the 4 leading scorers on the team.

I wonder if Morse really had anything to do with it.

99.876% of ALL the small "private" schools in the entire USofA recruit athletes. Especially basketball were just a couple of players can make a huge impact.

Boles in Jacksonville has been and remains a sports super power with consistently nationally ranked teams through "scholarships"

Although it is true that many schools "recruit" athletes, if The Villages HS did recruit these players as it appears, I am disappointed that we are not above this practice. A successful athletic team if fun to watch but I for one would rather win or lose with our own students.

This will happen more often as time goes on. I know Pettus and have for awhile. He would not directly EVER involve himself in any unsavory activity. That would not preclude others though. The reality is that it is a charter school that is not bound by districts. Our son graduated from TVCHS and he was actually also a "move-in" 3 sport athlete. It's the nature of the school. Florida is ripe with programs in every sport that benefit form charter or private status. I believe students can be limited in participation if transferring within districts but if moving to a charter or private school, no such limitations apply.
