We went to vote at the Lady Lake library about 3pm today and were in and out in 15 minutes! No lines!

Lines To Vote
I noted that the Rev stated on MSNBC this morning that Governor Scott was trying to hold down minority voter turnout by not extending the hours of the early voting places. Not sure that is needed. We voted a couple of days ago in Belview and waited for about 30 minutes. My daughter waited for about 5 minutes yesterday. Lots of voters in line for both sides but no one complaining and everyone proud for not minding the wait to do the right thing. It is important for those who want change or those who want to continue with the existing team to vote - regardless of how long you have to wait. If you dont vote - don't complain.

Proud to vote today at the community building on 466 and happy to see pride in all of the faces I saw there too.

A contributor to the lines could well be that many voters who were not inclined to vote in 2008 for what ever excuse are making sure they don't make the same stupid mistake this time!!!!!!! (this is a non partisan commentary/opinion).

That's what I don't understand. If they have all these long lines year after year and have to implement early voting, why don't they simply have more polling places? It would be pretty simple to determine that you need one polling place for every X amount of people.

There are approximately 12 million registered voters in the state of Florida. If there are 6000 polling places that means they each need to handle about 2,000 voters. Let's say that there are twenty booths in each polling place. That's only 100 people per booth over a twelve hour period or 8.33 people per hour. That gives everyone about 7.5 minutes to vote.
I don't know if that's reasonable or not, but if it's not then why not just great more polling places? Of course the fact that not everyone has the luxury of being able vote at any time of the day and there are other factors. It could be that during certain times of the day no one is voting and other times they are too crowded. But it shouldn't be that difficult to figure out. I lived in Massachusetts for most of my life and can't remember ever having to wait in line to vote.

It's disgraceful what the people of South Florida have been going through in order to exercise their constitutional right to vote. The last person in line at 7:00pm Saturday finally got to vote at 2:30am. These same problems existed in 2008, and what did they do to remedy the situation? They cut the number of early voting hours.
People in third-world countries and non-democratic countries have an easier time voting than the citizens of Florida. Florida seems to want to outdo itself in voting incompetence. |

Glad I voted early... and even gladder I didn't vote in South Florida.
Yes, I'm always happy and proud to vote but let's face it, six hour lines are uncool. Florida can do better, I hope.

We are voting tomorrow on election day. I am going to have a cheat sheet for the 11 - yes, I said 11 constitutional amendments. Ridiculous. I think the sheer volume of reading and confusion caused by this number may be part of what is slowing people down at the polls during the early voting.

I'm going to be VERY interested to see if the electorate votes for their own special interest,or what is best for the future of our children and grandchildren.
