Our Amarillo (3bdr ranch) doesn't have volume ceilings. It didn't really matter to us but my Mom is 85 & when she has to go to a nursing home or she passes I have to sell it. We have made many improvements but we just had that free market analysis that The Villages offers and were told that we would have to ask less because of the flat ceilings. What do you think? If our house has everything you want except for the volume ceilings would you pass it up? Thanks for your input.

If there was another one with the volume ceilings. Yes I would. I do like them in the living area. I believe they helped in the selling of our patio villa. Just my thoughts.

After looking at both we decided we had to have volume ceilings to give us the feeling of more space. We knew the house we would buy in TV would have less than half the sq footage we had in previous homes so the openess volume ceilings provided was very important to me.

Not to "rain on your parade", but that was on our "Absolutely Must Have" list when we chose to buy.

But there's a buyer for every home - someone will be glad to find your home available when you go to sell! But apples-to-apples, it will probably bring less money than the same home with volume ceilings.

When we first started looking, we put volume ceilings on our list of wants, not necessarily need, but it was at the TOP of our list; now that we've decided which home to build (we have to sell ours here first) that is one of the things we fell in love with about the home/model. But like what was stated in an earlier post, there's a buyer out there for every style of home. I don't think you'll have a problem selling when the time comes.

High ceilings I think are very desirable, wouldn't buy a house without them. However if you price it low enough there will be a buyer for the house I'm sure.

Unless it's an important criterion at the top of their list, what matters in the end is how the potential buyer feels when he/she walks in and sees their first impression.

If they walk in and see dark, cramped or cluttered space, with Grandma's attic decor and curtains, it won't matter which ceilings you have.

But if they walk in and see a home that is open, airy with windows uncovered, clean smelling, no Granny wallpaper to tear out, and with tastefully modern decor, chances are the ceilings won't matter if they are "wowed" at the overall look of the place.

Not everyone has volume ceilings on their list. Price it to sell, not to be left long on the market and getting very stale because you're holding out for a certain price.

The Amarillo is the style we plan to buy, and we are not fussy about the ceiling height. There are several things we would list in our preferences that would mitigate the ceilings; ie; East facing lanai; golf car garage; attic stairs; enclosed lanai; furnished; corner lot; cul du sac; landscaping; location.......................................... .... If we found two houses that were identical and priced the same and one had volume ceilings - we would probably go with the one with the ceilings, but that is an unlikely scenario.

Volume ceiling are not the most important thing to influence a sale - but it is an additional thing to entice buyers, so yes they will ask more for a model with higher ceilings

We are renting an Amarillo ranch 3bedroom. If I were to buy this house, the first change I would make is to remove the popcorn ceilings. The Villages were using popcorn ceilings WAAAAY after any other builder in Central Florida had stopped. I would also change the shower to a step in type without the door that opens into the bath. Otherwise, we really like the house.

Our entry, living room and dining room in our house in the SF East Bay had sloping ceilings that went up to about 25 ft high. You walked in the front door and were stunned by the size of the rooms.

When we were looking, I KNEW I wanted a CYV with volume ceilings and an open kitchen. I think we must have gone through a gazillion and after awhile I realized I kept forgetting to notice anything about the ceilings. The one we ended up buying had neither volume ceilings or open kitchen because we fell in love with the courtyard! Who would have guessed. If everything else is great, the ceilings won't matter as much.
