No. You may want a softener and or a whole house filter but you do not need one. We have both, bought at Lowe's and installed by a local plumber. I think the total cost 5 years ago was about $425. The water is on the hard side but really not bad we have always had soft water so we wanted the softener and added the whold house filter for a few bucks more, we figured why not.

Installed a softener several months ago. No more water stains on the chrome faucets, shower walls, etc. Why did I wait so long to get it (over 8 yrs)? On occasion, while washing a glass, it slipped right out of my hand, the water is so soft. I try to be more careful. We love it

Some people don't like the amount of chlorine that's in their tap water - they'll put in a filter to handle it.

I think the tap water has an "off" taste and occasionally a slight sulfur smell. We bought a screw on Brita filter for the tap and all is well!

We have been here since end June and are beginning to notice deposits on the fixtures. Unfortunately, we had put in a kitchen filtration system for water for drinking water but didn't anticipate we would need a whole house. Anyone know of an inexpensive system and we are not "handy" people so it will need to be done by a professional.

Like Shcisamax, we are thinking we should install a "whole home" water filtration system. I know there are many types available. Can you recommend the best kind and approximate cost?

BEWARE of All About Water and Solar. We got suckered by them. Ended up paying $2750 for the system and the "free ROS", after many problems. They refuse to take our calls now, refuse to send us the warranty and any info on our system we had installed in May. I am starting to wonder if the unit they installed was a used or repaired one. They will also have someone call you and tell you they are with the Welcome Wagon, which I found out later that The Villages does not have one, and never got the "free gifts" for allowing them to come out.

You've been scammed and lied to. Contact the Atty Generals office and file a complaint.
