Default Wearing earplugs while on Vacation

Does your spouse wear earplugs and listen to music or watch TV while at the pool or beach while you are on vacation?

No, but I do. If she wants to have a conversation, I will take them out. Otherwise, sitting poolside for hours is boring, so I will either be listening to music while I read emails and news on my phone/tablet, or listening to a podcast. We do most of our talking over meals or when driving to some destination. Poolside is for chilling, but I get bored easily.

I read when I'm at the pool, if I'm not in it. I don't hang out at the beach or pool on vacation though. I used to, before ear buds and smartphones. We usually had a transistor radio on at the beach, or a few of us would all cluster around with the same station on our transistors, so it sounded like stereo. And sometimes we'd bring our instruments and jam.

Now, I won't ever be on a beach or at the pool without being covered by a big umbrella or canopy. Skin cancer 3 times in the past 18 months = no more lazing in the sun. I hate hate hate sunscreen, so rather than slather up with something that assaults my nostrils with pure evil, I just avoid direct sunlight. Hat and sunglasses to prevent cataracts, I carry a sweater around to cover my arms when I'm walking around, and I sit in the shade whenever possible.

I wear hearing aids, and had a problem forcing the earbuds in as well, so never use them.
I just turn the volume up on the hearing aids, and listen to all the other bathers salacious gossip.

This comment took me back to my younger days of seaking out college girls cooking in the sun. The delicious scent of coconut oil and lip gloss.... Sigh.

I grew up on baby oil and iodine, not suntan lotion. Hence, the three skin cancers in the last 18 months. It catches up with us all, eventually.

No, that's a terrible idea.
