Default Weather Radio Recommendations

Recently purchased in the Village of Fernandina and was reading with interest the weather postings (Thundering in Hadley) and a questions comes to mind.

I was thinking of investing in a weather radio that provides alerts for specific area residing. With that in mind was looking at a Midland WR300 weather radio. It seems to not only provide weather alerts but can be used as a radio with AM/FM with clock, etc.

What's the feeling of the TOTV "faithful".... Is this too much radio? All comments are welcome.

Thanks in advance.

We purchased the Midland WR-300 and have been pleased. It has always alerted us before the television announcements. We bought it on Amazon.

We, too, have a Midland WR-300 and also purchased it from Amazon. Only use it for weather alerts. It is in our bedroom, on a dresser.

If anyone is interested in ordering the Midland WR-300, it's currently available from Amazon for $44. I just ordered one. We have an ETON FR 800 that we bought at Best Buy. Not saying which one is better, just passing some info if you want to compare features.

It has been almost jumping off the dresser today with all the tornado warnings. I agree with the previous posters that it goes off before you see any warnings on TV.

We don't have a weather radio, but had a warning on my IPhone today. The WeatherBug app provides all the latest warnings for your location. Either way, it's great to know when there is a problem.

Our Weather Radio didn't alert us today because it is programmed to only tell us if there is adverse weather predicted for Sumter County. We had the guys at the local Firehall program it for us. it's a service they offer.

What model radio do you have? Fire Dept. will program to alert for specific areas? Complimentary service?

Barefoot, it should have gone off because there was a Tornado warning and severe thunderstorm warning for Sumter County yesterday

Not sure of model, we got it at Ace Hardware in Southern Trace. Yes, the guys at the Fire Department will program it for you without charge. We asked for ours to be programmed for Sumter County alerts.
