Default Showcase Direct Update

I just got off the phone with Showcase Direct. The story I got was that they did know about the stores closing for weeks but were not told it was finalized. I was told that although the showrooms will close, their warehouse will stay open 'indefinitely' and there will be a Showcase Direct and Southern Lifestyles phone number to call for any issues.

As far as the extended warranty they sell, which if not used, resulted in store credit, I was told that I would get a refund from the insurance company instead of store credit.

I decided to cancel my order. The word 'indefinitely' is one of those buzz words used in business that means they do not know. Could be one month or one year. I think it logical to assume that once all orders are fulfilled, the warehouse will close. No one pays for empty warehouses.

As far as the extended warranty, it does not make sense that someone would sell me an extended warranty and then if I do not use it, will refund my money. They pay for repairs or replacements from premiums of those who never use the policy. If they refund them, how do they pay for claims?

I no not NEED a new living room set and since it was motorized recliner furniture more likely to give me problems, it just makes more sense to order from City Furniture or other local furniture store who will be around to assist me if problems develop. My personal experience with furniture stores has shown me that they can be instrumental in getting manufacturers to honor their warranties, replace defective items or effect repairs. The one time I had to do it on my own, the manufacturer failed to accept that the problem was due to a defect even though the guy they sent to inspect it told me it was.

P.S. Just got voice mail from my salesperson before I cancelled my order saying that store will close and that they will honor THEIR warranty for one year. That may be true but I do not think that a store who no longer is a customer of a manufacturer will have much influence in settling a dispute. After all, what are they going to do, tell them that they will no longer buy from them.

I purchased the extra warranty a year ago. I wonder what happens to that.

Southern Lifestyles and Showcase Direct is owned by the Morse family. I have to wonder if they will stop building after the buildout or continue somewhere else. I would imagine that the manufacturers that sell to them will want to keep on their good side.

But nothing in life is totally dependable. Things change.
