Default County Commissioners’ meeting

Did anyone go to the County Commissioners’ meeting last night?

They were supposed to discuss the increase in our fire assessment.

How did it go?

Read the village sun for a very unobjective account of the meeting.

According to today's Daily Sun the proposal was voted down 3-2. But what struck me was Sumter County fire and EMS officials said they needed the rate hike or they would have to lay off 35 firefighters. In the very next paragraph officials from The Villages said they needed the rate hike or they would not be able to hire more than 50 new firefighters. Well, one thing The Villages could do is hire the 35 members of the County FD solving one problem right there. That keeps 35 firefighters from unemployment.

I believe there is an AND at work. The Villages cannot hire AND the county is laying off.

The Villages cannot hire any new firefighters, including the 35 that the county will be laying off.
