Just came back from a recent cruise out of Port of Miami. Drove my personal car there. 4.5-5 hours on Florida's Tpk and parked at the cruise port ($20 per day). Easy to get in and out of the Port. Did that many times. There are cheaper off-site parking, but didn't want the hassle of waiting for the shuttles, etc. Some of the parking near the port looks a little sketchy and didn't want any issues with my car to ruin a wonderful time.

Ditto on Cruise Connection. Of course, it depends on what you consider "economical."

Our preference is to drive down the day before and stay in a hotel that has a nice restaurant & includes parking for the week, offers a shuttle ( of which you still could take a cab one or both ways which would be quicker). Our main reason for going the day before is we don't want to subject ourselves to any problems that could delay us arriving at the port & risk departure plus we like boarding as soon as it is permitted.
