Could someone please tell me what type of a/c do they build? Is it electric or forced air? Thanks,

TV builds with Carrier heat pumps. They are electric and they are forced air units.

In The Villages?,...they install heat pumps or straight cool units, forced air for circulation. If heat pumps are used, they install electric heat strips for backup on cold days when the heat pump doesn't work well. The straight cool units,...most of them are coupled with electric heat in the indoor unit,..... There are also some gas furnaces used as well along with straight cool condensers but I don't think they are as common here because heat pumps work well in our climate.

Graytop, If you had to replace an old unit, what would you buy?

Funny you should ask,..I'll be in the market for one soon as my existing unit is about 14 years old. I've got a small leak in my condenser coil that will probably be the death of my existing system before too long. It's just not worth investing around $1000 in that old of a unit. I'll probably go for a Carrier heat pump system with electric backup heat.

I have a separate cooling system and a gas furnace. Seems to work fine. I never did like the heat pump system due to the amount of electricity it uses.

I have to say this. In our new block and stucco house...Since we moved in, in October...we have NOT used the heating or cooling very much at all. Less than 20 days.
I can't believe it.

I like the idea of a straight cool system with a gas furnace but that's not an option in Santo Domingo. (unless I'd put in an underground propane tank) I've been happy with the cost/performance ration of my existing heat pump so I think I'll stick with that type of a system.
