Default General transport service for non-driver

Is there a ride service that anyone can recommend for transportation for someone who has had to stop driving? This would be for doctor appointments, errands, etc, within The Villages. TY.

If you live in Sumter county, the county provides door to door transportation for people with qualifying disabilities at little cost to you. This is an example of a community thru its taxes supporting those who need assistance. There is some screening based on your financial situation as obviously if you can afford to pay for private transportation then the county should not be expected to provide the ride.

Here is the link with an outline of services and how you apply.

OP, I don't have a specific recommendation. But, if you don't qualify for a Government transportation service, a private service will be very expensive, especially if they need to wait for you at a medical facility, or if you need to travel to Ocala or Gainesville. A trip to Gainesville for a simple doctor visit can cost $350. If you can drive a golf cart for short trips, you will save a lot of money. Good luck.

My husband and I are also in need of such a service. The Villages should have a shuttle service that makes local trips daily for those who can no longer drive. Most of us can pay a fee for such a service.

It can make the difference between being able to continue living here and having to go to assisted living.

I think a big factor is which village you live in. I would post that to see if you get more interest.

There are few local cab (taxi) services that may be useful as well as Uber or Lyft. If this is a rare occurrence perhaps a neighbor could help.
NOTE: if the "had to stop driving" is due to losing their license, they cannot drive a golf cart, it is my understanding the loss of your license prevents you from operating ANY motorized vehicle.

Wouldn't it be great to have totally self driving cars. You approach, the door opens. You tell it where you want to go and it gets you there. Door opens and you get out. Car parks itself until you call for it.
I want one, NOW!

They do it’s called Uber and Lyft. Either way if you have a self driving car that you still own you still will have costs associated with still having a car. I could not image what the cost for such car would be for just purchasing.

OP here is another service if you do not have a smart phone that will connect you with them when you need a ride. The minimum cost looks like $11.72 in addition to the cost of the ride.
I recommend if you can use a smart phone give Uber/Lyft a try. The cost will be based on distance so depending on your location vs. the cost, etc. You will have the same for any service vs. the distance.

Do you have Caring Neighbors in your village? They can help.

Check with a church. They sometimes have volunteers who are happy to help.

See if there is a Caring Neighbors program in your village. CN is a volunteer program within its village to help with transport, respite care…. There currently are 22 villages with Caring Neighbor programs. We are non-profit. Go to Caring Neighbors - www.thevillagescaringneighbors.com

Default I may be able to help.

I may be able to help. I previously drove patients for American Cancer Society. Where in The Villages do they live?

Lyft or Uber. Works great. And you can schedule rides in advance if you prefer.

You would think with all that money Wildwood/Sumter is raking in they would have a public bus service like Lake County does.
