Default Re-gifting for Christmas

I look to the ladies on thoughts on giving a treasured gift I received 50 years ago, and give it to a very dear friend i haven't seen in 35 years, when i visit out of country at Christmas.

I don't think a gift has to be bought or new to be of value or a treasure. If you give something that is thoughtful and meaningful to both you and the recipient, then it is a lovely, wonderful thing. The idea of gift giving is to give something you know someone will appreciate and enjoy, not how much money you can spend on it. I once got an old dog item that someone had treasured and it meant a great deal to me because it was special to that person. Go for it if it has meaning for you. It's about the feeling, not the price tag.

About 30 years ago, my brother and I still exchanged birthday gifts. His is in August and mine is in September. One year I was lax in shopping and did not purchase him a gift. Instead I simply mailed him a check with a Happy Birthday card. In September, he mailed it back to me. We've only done cards since, but never forget those! :-)

To me, regifting is tacky. You're dumping something on someone else that you didn't want.

What you are doing is NOT regifting by any stretch of anyone's imagination. You are giving a treasured keepsake to someone that you care about and whom you think will appreciate this item. That's the best kind of gift. It comes from the heart, not the wallet.
