Default Just curious..

I belong to a church in Summerfield. The
Church helps with the House of Ester food pantry.
In the bulletin they were calling for food items that are needed. I was wondering If I were to call all Villagers to pack up some items (can food and non perishables) and meet me at a drop off spot for collection on any given day at designated location..would anyone respond for our neighbors in need in the area? or could you take items to the St. Joe's for donating>? Just curious,
I know when we had hurricane Andrew all those years ago down south, I did this and we collected a hugh cargo van loaded with items and headed south to the destruction. We were able to find a squatter village of migrant workers who lost everything and had not had food or water for days. IT MADE US feel so good being able to do something to help. IT's pay it forward time...anyone GAME????

If you can get the word out, they will come. Many don't have cars, carts only, so they would have difficulty delivering to you but I'm sure that if you pick a drop-off spot, you'll be overwhelmed with the generosity here. I know I'd be happy to drop by with some stuff.

That is exactly what I am hoping for say a parking lot at a shopping center at any given day at a specific time...

Our neighbor collects every Sunday morning. Most of our villa neighbors put canned food at the end of the driveway and he collects it every Sunday and takes it to the food pantry every week. We always buy extra to put at the end of the driveway. I think that if you ask your neighbors they will always respond. I would donate to a spot that you designate.

Not sure about a grocery store letting you use the space this time of year, but maybe the lot across from Sweet Bay where the offices are. Another very good possibility would be the mailboxes. Maybe even have someone at each of the mailboxes and then have someone pick them up at the end of the day. The plus to this would be that you could probably put announcements at each of the mailboxes. Good luck!

Barbara - you also might consider timing your collection with the end-of-the-month departure of snowbirds - those who are staying here thru feb/mar/apr. we often have non-perishables that we donate because we don't want to leave them here while we have returned to our northern nest.

and you might contact the local police depts. to find out if you can obtain permission to place a small notice [half sheet of paper?] on car windshields in shopping center parking lots in order to announce your collection...if you have someone to print up said notices! I know that I hate to get most of those notices - but your effort would be an exception for me!

I'll gladly donate, just let me know where and when.
I live near the Savannah Center. If you can arrange for a drop off point near there, i'd be willing to help out for a few hours (doing whatever else is needed) Let me know.
