Hi again!
I don't know what we would do without this forum. We are having some large items delivered to our new house, including a king mattress and boxspring. We are renting now in Winifred and will start to get deliveries of various things at the new house in Lake Deaton. We will not actually be moving into the house until the bedroom and kitchen are set up. Does anyone know how this would work? Does the Post Office, UPS or Amazon deliver right to the door and we would have to drive down and bring the items into the house? Does they give notice as to delivery so we can be at the house when stuff arrives? Our agent doesn't know nor does the sales office so I am asking again for help.

Every delivery service is different and most of the times it depend on how the item was shipped. Some need signatures, some will just be left. The furniture will surely need someone there to receive it. No service I know of (Post Office, UPS, FedEx) will let you know a delivery is on the way. They will only leave you a tag when they miss you, if a signature was required. You need to coordinate this with where you are buying the items. If you are ordering, say from Overstock, they will send you an email, with the name of the service they used to ship your item and a tracking number when it shipped. You can then follow the progress of your package via the carriers website.

If you go on line to fedex.com and ups.com and create accounts. Sign up for e-mail notifications of packages. You will receive an e-mail as soon as the item is shipped. It will give you a morning or afternoon delivery window and date of the delivery also and you may receive updates off an on if the delivery changes.

Also if you order from Amazon you can look at your orders and click on track this package and you can see there the status of the package. Some of the furniture may be delivered by other sources than Fed-ex or UPS, you would need to contact who you purchased it from to find out how it was shipped.

I've bought many items small and large online and almost everytime I've gotten an email that the item has shipped and there is a tracking number. Usually you click on the number or copy the number and go the shipper's website and fill it in. You don't really need to setup an account to track your package, the tracking number is all you need.

When the item reaches Leesburg (usually Fedex or UPS) or Lady Lake (USPS), the entry will read 'out for delivery'. That means a local driver is carrying your package and will be making delivery today. There is also a newer service when the seller usually offers free shipping, it's called 'Smart Package'. The package will start out with Fedex or UPS but then will be given to the post office, usually in Leesburg and delivered by USPS. In tracking this type of package, you'll be on say the UPS website and the entry will read, handed off to USPS. Most USPS packages will be delivered to your mail stop and if it's big, they put a key in your mail box for one of the lockers. On rare occasion, like a golf club and it's too long for the locker, the mailman will bring it to your house.

As a rule, I believe Fedex and UPS will not deliver packages over 70 pounds, so if you have a mattress it's probably coming via a truck service. I've had yard chairs purchased from Pennys come via truck service, a beer kegerator come by truck, and many other items. Usually these companies don't have a standard operating system. You may get an email, a phone call, or they call for directions, or don't call at all and just show up. Good Luck with your packages!

If you are having a full, quuen or king mattress delivered it will be delivered by a freight line. Too large for the normal delivery companies. That being said UPS owns their own freight line. Not sure about fedexx but ups will truck deliver because i used to ship and receive pallets of goods through them.

Tracking information from USPS, UPS and Fedex will give you the day of delivery not the exact time. UPS and Fedex will send you an email immediately after the package is delivered. If the mattress is coming from a furniture company they can certainly tell you the delivery date. If it is coming common carrier you might get a phone call that they will be there in 10 minutes. If you are not there when they arrive to deliver they will come back but you will be charged double for the delivery.
