I'd like to install a whirlpool bathrub in our guest bathroom. I'm wondering if anyone has done this and can recommend a supplier/plumber.

If there has been a previous thread on this, I apologize, I couldn't find one.

Boy do I have a deal for you. I have a Kohler tub/whirlpool in our guest bath. The faucet alone on it cost us over $800. Our home was bought in 2005 and the tub has been used at most 3 times. It looks as good as new. It is about 41" by 71".

I will be removing the whirlpool/tub and installing a roman shower. You can come by and look it over. I could let you have everything for $400.

Jeffy, sorry, but I need a tub that will fit in the area of a "normal" tub. But thanks, it sounds like a good deal, perhaps someone else will have space for it.

In Ohio we had a whirlpool "regular" size tub. I think it was American Standard and we got it at Home Depot.

Jojo, that is also what I had at home, and what I hope to have here. I miss my whirlpool tub.

I just need the name of someone reliable to install it.

I encourage to think real hard about whirlpool baths. If you know of positive experience you're the first one I know of. We had one for years and it was never used. Takes too much time and water to fill. After looking at the wasted space we just ripped it out and put in Roman shower and converted our old shower to a closet.

Interesting post Cleanwater. I never really thought about the fact that my lifestyle in Florida is very different from my lifestyle in Canada. I used my whirlpool bath at home in Canada often. But perhaps that was because I was bored! Things are so different here in Florida, and I'm much busier.

Hmmm .. something to consider for sure. Or perhaps I need a hot tub in the birdcage.

We removed a whirlpool when we remodled our master bath here in Ohio. We made our shower bigger.

I sold the old one on ebay!

We replaced the whirlpool with a smaller soaking tub and we have used it maybe three times in two years.

I have called the warranty department a number of times for names of contractors they use. Their references have all been satisfactory.
I would advise getting at least three bids.

I'm with Cleanwater on this issue. Last house (prior to Villages) we built, I just HAD to have whirlpool in Master Bath. In the 9 years we lived there I think it was used 3 - 4 times at most. What a waste of money, and room. Never again, but a hot tub on the lanai? Hmmm, that might be an idea worthy of merit1

I'm wondering the cost of operating it? I'm sure lots of people have them.
Since we're only in TV from October to April, can it be emptied and left for six months? Perhaps, like a swimming pool for snowbirds, a hot tub just isn't practical?

Barefoot. We have a hot tub up north. Have had 3 tubs over the last 20 years. Just got a new tub 2 years ago, a nordic spa, it ran around $3,000. The cost of running them is about $15-20 a month in the cold weather. Here in the summer months you could just put it on circulate for the months you are gone and it would probably run $5-10 per month as you would need no heat. We set ours up north at 60F for the months we are gone and it costs next to nothing in the winter. You should be able to get a nice 4-5 person tub for less than tearing out your tub and installing a new one. If you need more info let me know.

It certainly can be emptied but leaving it filled and turning the heat down as low as it goes will reduce the cost of operation. Up here in PA I do that all the time, turning it up a few hours before use. I estimate my electric charge at $1 a day and my electric is more expensive than FL.
