I love the fact we don’t have trash bins they get left out for hours if not days . Have to find a place to store them and with twice weekly pick up you’d never fill it up. If people didn’t put their bag out at night no rodent or bugs will get into the bags ! I vote No to the big smelly bins that get left at the curb and become a big eye sore !

They pickup trash twice a week, we don’t need any cans. Some People are lazy and the cans will sit out all day. Get your own can for your garage, then on trash day take the bags to the curb. The system works fine!

Six years we've been here and that hasn't ever happened to us, or the neighbors whose driveways we can see from our yard. Just the crows in the afternoon, and twice, some vultures came to visit down the street.

It is very antiquated and unhygienic how we have it here in the Villages. Leaving trash on the ground gets a crazy amount of bugs/rodents, and makes a soupy mess when it rains. It's also terrible for the crew to have to handle leaky dirty cardboard and trash bags flying around in the rain overnight.

Find My District - The Villages Community Development Districts

I recommend people find their CDD reps here and email them a simple request to modernize the system as I have done as well.

Thank you
One of the things I love about it here is the trash pick up system. I don’t have to look at everyone’s trash bins.

My guess is the Village Owners don't want to pay the money for garbage cans. Also: I'm not talking about cans with take off lids; I'm talking about the big black cans with flip lids that were supplied by the municipalities I lived in. You would also need less garbage workers. Lets move up to the 21rst century.
Clearly you are new. The Villages is not owned.

It would be nice if there were some common trash drops for those that are leaving town. Trash that shouldn't be on the street for days because of pests and too smelly to leave in their home.
We have several neighbors who would gladly do this for us, as we would for them. Surely you have neighbors like this too?

Well at least the bin color matches the contents.
L.A. is V E R Y diverse. There are horsey-areas within the city limits, such as Sylmar and Tujunga. Cities around L.A. many have heard of are not actually cities, they are neighborhoods that are actually in the City of Los Angeles. Hollywood, for example, is not a city. It is Los Angeles, as is Sylmar, Northridge, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, San Pedro, and many others.

Believe it or not, there are horse properties in Compton, also. Compton, however, IS its own city and not part of Los Angeles. Watt is Los Angeles though. Clear as mud, right?

Some neighbors don't want everyone knowing their comings and goings.

That is exactly what we do. Seems to work just fine. Never had a bag "pecked open by birds" nor had "paper strewn down the street".

They don't "stink" in our garage, so I fail to see how they would stink when put out at the end of the driveway...

"Everyone"? I'm sure you can find ONE reliable neighbor who will keep an eye on your home when you're away. I know we do. We drop off a bag of trash when we leave and they do the same when they leave.

They also have use of our extra refrigerator (in the garage) if they need it when we're away...
