Somehow the USA Government instills a hatred of 'Snowbirds' I have to jump through hoops to get a visa for more than 90 days (and pay big bucks for it - plus time to go to the embassy). The DMV cancel my licence on the day I leave after a stay. The DMV also suspended my licence because my insurance on the car ran out and I didn't renew it because I'm 4000 miles away and not driving the car (it's up on tire savers and connected to a battery charger under cover) now they want $150 to renew my licence and remove the marker ???? AND although I'm fully vacinated the USA border is closed to me and my house is just sitting there ...and i'm paying all the taxes insurance utilities and amenity fee for no benefit. I'm feeling kindda miserable about all of this

Do you have a recommendation for this service? Thank you!

Personally I can't stand the entitled attitude that a lot of snowbirds display, along with the urgency on the roadways. Prices go up every fall so that the developers can further line their already bulging pockets, and frankly a lot of snowbirds are rude. I have some great snowbird friends, that do not act as I described. I do believe if the developers would quit lying about expansion, that part of the animosity would subside.

That sounds racist to me.

I’m a full timer but I haven’t noticed any angst against snowbirds. In fact many people refer to SB for distinction, as in, “my snowbird friends”, meaning, you can join the group when you’re here. I’ve not heard one negative reference. I’ve found that some folks just have to complain, if it’s not about snowbirds it will be about something or someone else. Just consider the source and live your life your way.

Back about circa 1915 early psychiatrists developed diagnostic criteria for various mental disorders. One was called "loosening of associations" and another was "reality testing". My specialty is not psychiatry, but looking at that post I wonder if the criteria have been met:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: |

Why do people have to be called names at all?
|
Taste like chicken? Cute. They drive faster because most are younger and can still turn their heads to see where they are going, Resturant’s in Florida are all empty in the warmer season, because half the state leaves. Try going off campus for a meal, use open table or rsty to make a reservation. Works every time.

Ha ha .... great question. You would think they would love us - we pay taxes and don't use the amenities half of the year .... we are perfect neighbors.
|
He wasn’t talking about what you pay or that you don’t use the place in the summer. It was about their attitude and you kind of proved his point. Everyone just relax and have fun, you are in The Villages playing around. It shouldn’t matter how long you are here just have fun.

Snowbirds/Sunbirds
There is a new term (nickname) that I’ve found which fits a number of Florida residents. SUNBIRDS! Sunbirds are residents who own property here and go north or other places during the summer. There are many of em’ living here in The Villages. :coolsmiley:

Wow.that does suck! Hopefully you could rent the fl place out. |
Ohiobuckeye
I understand that snowbirds would be a little upset. They pay to have their yards mow, pay Amenities for 4,5 or 6 months then can’t play golf & do several other things when they do come. But in defense of the yr. round residents, snowbirds have to know play time in the south is when it’s winter in the north. When do the snowbirds think everyone comes to Florida? So the solution is sell your place, or be a full time resident in TV yr. round. I lived in Ohio & living in the north I didn’t miss a thing.

I am just rereading these post again this morning and ya know what...you full timers can stick it where the sun doesn't shine!! How dare you..we pay as much as you do every month, that is our village, equally. Your dispise for us is childish, rude, selfish and totally wrong. You are lucky you are not charged more for amenities while we are away. This message does not go out to everyone, of course, but the ones that responded that they hate/dislike etc,etc us returning...shame on you. |

The people who live here year 'round are those whose grandchildren are not small anymore or they have none. Those people are called FROGS and we are here 'til we croak as we all know.
P.S. I found this, just now; The Florida Frogs are one of the rare true frogs that can be found solely in the western parts of Florida. These frogs mostly occur in seepages or sluggish backwaters that have sand at the bottom. They have a light green body and display sexual dimorphism, wherein the males are smaller than their female counterparts and have a yellow throat. |
I'm here full time and I agree with your statement. They pay just as much as I do, but they are gone for part of the year. They could be here all the time (like me) and I bet people would really complain about traffic all year long instead of just winter season. Love the snowbirds!!!

Snowbirds have every right to be here and enjoy their homes and community!! Many of my friends are snowbirds.
The only reason I don’t look forward to their arrival : Grocery store shelves bare at Walmart, etc. Not snowbirds fault Can’t get Tee Times, not their fault. New homes but not enough new Facilities ..😫 Roads congested. Not their fault. Morse and Buena Vista only main artery’s North and South - can’t handle On and on ! Welcome Snowbirds 😎 |
Personally I love when the snowbirds return🥰 I find my street way too quiet and a bit lonely when they are “home”. We FROGS need some excitement in our everyday lives…just sayin…….

Coming from a large busy city, I prefer the quiet time myself. It is relaxing and peaceful mostly because of fewer people around.
|
When I was a Snowbird, I felt insulted when anybody said I was one because it always felt like a putdown until one day a full time friend said to me, being called a "Snowbird" isn't so bad. Look at me. I'm a "Frog". I said "What does that mean?" She said "It means I'm here till I croak". I didn't like that at all!! So, from then on being called a Snowbird didn't bother me anymore and as of a few years ago, I am now a Frog.
|
It might be the reason you just stated. Think about how negative you were…just saying.
I do not have anything against snowbirds as long as they have good manners..welcome any time. |
