Default Question for those who have a disability

This morning I was leaving Winn Dixie parking lot. I noticed a double amputee in a motorized wheelchair pushing a grocery cart to his car.

That southern upbringing caused me to turn around and park near his car. I got out offering to help him load his groceries.

He immediately became angry that I asked if he needed help, saying “you young people need to mind your own business.”

He was wearing a veteran hat, I quickly thanked him for his service, went back to my car. Spending a good amount of time at VA facilities usually will get a “I’m good, but thanks for asking”. Or that would be great thanks for helping.

So question to those who have disabilities or difficulties, do you get offended if someone offers help?
