Yep that automatic "on" is a God sent. My car is now 5 years old and I didn't know it was an option until my daughter visited last week and set it.

I went to the garage to put something in my car the following morning and the lights came on when I opened the door. I thought someone left the highlights on all night.... but how you can't remove the keys from the ignition without a warning that you have left your headlights on. I am such a sophisticate
