There have been several tracking devices on market for years. What big deal about Apple? O it cost more, so that must make it better? It’s personnel choice, going on forum asking like last place to ask. That question for family discussion.

My wife walks early in the morning, there is an app available called “Life360” it does track by the phone number, we have it installed on both our phones, she can press Help on it and it will loudly let me know so I can go and get her. Also it tracks all stops, since we have been married for 57 years now we have nothing to hide from one another.

Trackers are used in TV all the time, some issued by the Sheriffs Department. Because it’s not in your house, means your not in a situation to make these decisions. We have 6 residents in our neighborhood, who are lucid one minute and no clue the next. 3 week ago one walked into a neighbors home sat down in the living room and watched TV.
Privacy is no longer in the equation when it happens in your household. When you have to make this decision your thoughts may or may not change, in the meantime I’m glad your household is whole and has no issues. I am guessing if your mother in law was gone for 3 plus hours you would be ok with it.

I believe that ANY tracking device that you buy is already being tracked by the manufacturer. It's just like buying a new fishing lure. The first thing the lure caught was YOU.
Using a tracking device on an elderly person without permission is both a security precaution and an invasion of privacy.
Our privacy is being invaded every day, and it's up to us to be vigilant. If it doesn't bother you don't worry about it. If it does, then be aware of it's presence and what form it takes.
I have absolutely nothing to hide or be ashamed of, yet I object to being tracked.....whether by location or by purchases. Because it's all about control.
When someone/something is out to get you, it's good and necessary to be paranoid.

Apple Airtags Might Be Great For Theft Prone Cars, BUT...

The Airtags aren’t stealth at all, and alert the criminal who steals the car that they being tracked, and even makes a sound to identify the location of the Airtag, to assist the criminal to quickly find the Airtag. Using Tile is a cheap way to track a stolen car, but not very effective. If you need to be able to track a stolen car more reliably, then you’d need to attach a real GPS tracking device to that car, and pay for the GPS tracking monthly subscription cost.

They do make GPS tracking devices for medium to large dogs that could be used to track humans. Those GPS tracking devices could be placed in a jacket pocket, but wouldn’t be very stealth.

Another idea would be to give the elderly person with memory problems an iWatch. They could use the iWatch as a watch, and you could use their iWatch to track them. The situations where there are Silver Alerts for missing elderly people could have quickly be ended without issuing a Silver Alert, if the elderly person had been wearing an iWatch that could be tracked.

The privacy issues might be a concern. But millions of people are currently being spied on and tracked now by cellphone applications by companies like Google and Facebook, without your knowledge or consent. Those companies might also be eavesdropping on your conversations when you are talking, when not making phone calls. So, right now, most people don’t really have privacy.

I would use it. It's your golf cart. Keeping track of it, whoever is driving it, is basicaly good security.
I would also tell the MiL that she is safe if she gets lost, as the golf cart has a tracker on it.
Tracked vehicles usually get a better rate of insurance.

That’s the way to do it. Track the cart not the person. No matter who is driving it, you will know where it is. Whether MiL, thief or anyone visiting.

How about just having an adult conversation and tell her you are worried about her getting lost and tell her your ideas instead of sneaking a tracking device on her. Id be pretty annoyed if someoen did that to me

I agree with your wife and when is (in the 70’s) old? If you said she had dementia or some other problem then tracker her but she should know how to call you if she gets lost. I am 82 and I wouldn’t like someone tracking me.

Thank you for that info. I think that Apple tracker is a great device...we plan on putting one in the cart. People do steal wherever you live....I could care less if my car had one and can be tracked by my husband. I have nothing to hide🤷🏼*♀️ I see it as a safety issue. As long as we both agree and know it’s there.
