I don’t think anyone should have to show ID at the squares. However, I believe that the Villagers pay for the entertainment as part of their amenity fee. Sumter County does not pay for it… is this correct? Hmmm...

Villager's Fees do not pay for the entertainment. Sumter County pays a large portion of the cost and merchants in the square make up the remainder.

The counties pay for part of it, the merchants pay for part of it. Some of it comes from the tourism tax. The squares are open to the public even though the Villages holding company (or one of their many subsidiaries) owns the properties that the physical square and the stores/shops/offices are on.

I sense you wish only Villagers were allowed into the squares. I personally LOVE seeing younger families attend. It's refreshing and often hilarious to watch them enjoy themselves on the dance floor.

Amenity fees do not pay for the entertainment. This has been gone over countless times.

Amenity fees may not pay for the entertainment but we Villagers do pay for all the upkeep of the squares. We are on the hook to replace the windmills and water towers, etc. that need repair. We don’t charge rent to the county or the store owners so they are getting a free venue and that is a great bargain. The cost of maintaining these town squares comes out of our amenity fees. It is like a neighborhood group holding a party every week at your house and they pay for the entertainment but you have to clean up, check for damage to your home, pay the mortgage, taxes, electricity, etc., etc., etc. We Villagers pay the lion share of the cost to put on nightly entertainment in the town squares.

No, you’re not correct. Not even close. Just enjoy the entertainment and don’t worry about who pays for it.

That's ridiculous. Who do you think pays to clean up Times Square after New Year's Eve? & why do so many Villagers, not have a clue who pays for what and what their Amenity Fee pays for? Didn't you people ask these questions, before buying a home? If you didn't shame on you, if you did ... stop trying to re-write history and the deal you bought into. |

The info below is from 2020 and not current but good information.
If we did not get these funds, cleaning would be the least of our worries. Amenity fees would go up. Also, as I understand, the businesses in the squares pay high leasing costs for the buildings... ----------------------------------------------------------- Expressing optimism that life soon may return to normal, Sumter County commissioners this week approved $461,100 in tourism grants for events during the next fiscal year that begins Oct. 1. The money comes from the Tourism Development Tax and the grants were recommended by the Sumter County Tourism Council. The largest grant was $120,000 to The Villages for nightly entertainment on the Lake Sumter and Brownwood town squares. Spanish Springs town square is in Lake County.
