When you register on TalkofTheVillages you select a user name and we DO NOT require you to put in your real name. This is for your privacy and security. For example, if you were going to post a comment on an article that you read on another website and you put your real name as they require you to do in order to make a comment there is now a permanent record of your personal comment/opinion on the internet. Forever. You could be a target of harassment, discrimination, or fraud as your real name is now permanently indexed in all the search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. for anyone in the world to see.

For your safety and privacy we've learned from almost 10 years of experience of being on the internet that the safer and smarter thing to do is allow Villagers who want to post comments on our website to not be required to put your real name. It is irresponsible and could be potentially a liability to do so.
