Bogie Shooter the problem I'm having with my roof is not the one you sited.
It is another problem where granulation from the down spouts indicates the roof is failing. We went through the process and were told our roof falls within the problem area and we are waiting for OC to respond which they said they would sometime soon. See the POA July issue.

Blistering Shingles Update

VILLAGERS’ BLISTERING SHINGLE RELIEF FROM OWENS CORNING

For several months Owens Corning has been aggressively attending to warranty claims in The Villages related to blistering shingles. The blistering phenomenon is believed to be a result of a manufacturing problem in an Owens Corning plant in 2003-5. One group of concerned Villagers affected by the blistering are second owners, who did not have shingle warranties transferred from their homes original owners. The VHA had determined that about one quarter of the homes affected were second-owner homes that were potentially facing shingle repairs of about $6000 or more. In addition to assisting Owens Corning in resolving the blistering problem, the VHA had requested consideration for second (and subsequent) owners without active warranties. Owens Corning replied to the VHA with the following release for Villagers:

As we have previously addressed, some homeowners at The Villages have experienced isolated blistering concerns with Owens Corning™ Supreme® or Classic® shingles. Your VHA has been advocating on your behalf and working with Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt (Owens Corning) to address the concerns of those homeowners. Our collaboration with Owens Corning has resulted in an acceptable resolution. Owens Corning has elected to replace affected materials, in the case of blistering that causes performance issues, for any homeowner at The Villages whose Supreme® or Classic® roof shingles were installed between 2003 and 2006, regardless of level of ownership (first, second or subsequent owner).



Owens Corning advises that blistering was found on only a fraction of The Villages houses inspected to date, and that the blistering found was typically in only small areas of the roof. Owens Corning assures us that not all blistering results in a performance problem with the shingle, but in the unlikely event of blistering that creates a performance problem, the blistering usually presents within the first 5 years after installation. As such, Owens Corning has extended its offer to replace Owens Corning™ Supreme® and Classic® 3-tab shingles where blistering was determined to affect the performance of the roof by providing material and labor to replace the defective shingles. This offer will extend through December 31, 2011, giving plenty of time for inspection and replacement.



Homeowners with open claims should receive a letter from Owens Corning in the coming days with more information about this claim resolution. In the meantime, if you have concerns or questions, please call 1-800-ROOFING.

The story that you are referencing is for shingles installed between 2003 and 2006. The current problem is for shingles installed between 2007 and 2009. Unless I have missed it I do not believe the VHA has mentioned the 2nd issue of defective shingles.

It used to be than most towns (even small ones) had newspapers supporting/advocating each of the major political parties. Their articles and editorials shaped political debate. Unfortunately, few cities can actually support one paper, let alone two and we have lost an important part of political discourse.

I read both VHA and POA newsletters. Each has good (and not-so-good) points about them. Do I believe everything that I read? Nope. But I do like having multiple perspectives.

given the state of the media today journalistic bias, bogus internet stories, etc indeed it is wise as Bizdoc states concerning that believing everything you read. However, I find the POA's reporting to be factual and when it is only their opinion they make that position clear by acknowledging it is an opinion. So personally I am more comfortable and confident with the POA Newsletter

I did see it in the latest POA paper and apparently missed it from the VHA. Probably my fault since I am so used to taking much less time to read what the VHA puts out. Thank you for the info.
