Default To add granite???

]I am wondering if it is more economical to install granite AFTER I move in verses having the builder put it is?

Are you happy with the quality that the builder puts in?

I am probably making the decision to build this summer. YEAH!!!-Can't wait......

looking forward to being of TV and all that TV offers.

We did, but we didn't have a choice with a CYV since you buy them "spec" built. But from what I have read and heard from others who are building. If you wait till after you can get cheaper and more selection then TV offers.

Pluses to having them done by developer: You know the job will be done properly (if not, the warranty dept. will get it fixed for you); you don't have to put up with the mess and clean up; you know the exact cost (no mysterious additional fees); you know it will be done when promised.

Pluses to doing after: Better selection; probably cheaper.

We used Home Depot for our Granite Tops. This was done after home was built. paid up front for it. The company they used from Ocala was really good. they made the template and then we picked out the Granite. The only thing that changed the price, is we selected a granite color that was in a higher price code than we orignally selected at the store, also I had figured the sqft for the tops we had. they base the price off of what you give them, when they did the template it was 10 ft bigger due to me extending the bar area.
Other than that no problem with price or anything. They showed up when they were suppose to. If there is a problem, Home Depot makes sure it is corrected. I am sure Lowes would be the same. I do know the company that does alot of the Homes for The Villages, i called them and they were more than i got it from HD.. Just a thought

We did our counter tops up north. I drew pictures of all the tops with measurements and faxed it to 5 different companies. I told them a specific color and they sent prices back to me. One was high, I tossed it . Another was way low and I figured you get what you pay for, tossed it out too. The other 3 were all close together. I went to each and picked the one I thought would do the best job.

FWIW, just did the "pick list" thing last Sunday and saw by backing out Granite saved us $6K. This will also lower the value used by the county appraisers to calculate property tax.

We'll add it later.

thanks for the info guys....
