Yeah, I know there are no basements there. I'm really going to miss mine. We have Comcast here and I was just checking how things were there. When we first moved in here, in VA, we were using a 10' sattelite dish for our TV and there was no high speed internet. We had to use dial up. Things sure have changed in the last 18 years. We have two DVR boxes here and I have wondered if we could bring ours or will we have to turn them in and get new used ones there. I guess my best bet is to call Comcast.

If you want to install cable phone you have to go to Comcast. I wanted to take advantage of their triple play pricing so I went directly to Comcast. At first they told me that they did not service my area at all. I called a second time to get a different sales rep and they were able to find my address and tell me that they could install TV and Internet but no phone service available yet. A third call confirmed that there was phone service available also.

Macro - Thanks, I had a feeling it was going to be like that. When you moved, did you get the same type of equipment?

I called Comcast last week (7/14/2010) to order triple play. I was given an acct number and a telephone number. I wanted to schedule the install for September 6th when I will get to The Villages. I was told that they couldn't schedule out that far and to call back in a week). I called back today (7/23) and talked to a different person. I gave her my acct # and was told that when she put in my Social she got a message that I couldn't place the order over the phone and that I had to go to a Service Center in Leesberg in person.
Anyone experience this? I'm sure they can take an order over the phone. I'll call back again and talk to a different person and see what they say. Kathy |

I had good experience with Comcast installation, we had Cable TV and scheduled upgrade to triple play prior to our move here earlier thsi month. did everything over the phone, installer came on time and did a good job.
I'm happy with the VOIP phone, internet (I added the wireless router and wireless print server) and TV

Like I had said, we were dealing with the same office in that move so was basically the same equipment. Later we swapped out one box for HD and added a DVR HD box. We will see how our install goes 1st week of August. Did get very good info when talking to the Orlando office. Did find that when you call the 800 number, the office you end up talking to depends on the area code and exchange number you entered that determines how your call gets routed. I used 352-752-xxxx and got the Orlando call center.

I have been trying to get a Comcast installation for about 6 weeks. They have come about three times, billed me for the last two months and I still have no tv. People on the phone are courteous but getting things done is not a strength. Does anyone recommend another tv/internet provider?

You can easily activate the outlets yourself if you know how to splice a cable. However, if Comcast catches you with outlets that they didn't activate, they will literally cut your connectors off (I know, sounds painful). I don't know what gives them the authority to do this since all the cable that runs into your home should belong to you... not the cable company. Nevertheless, they did it to me. Plugging a cable ready TV to a cable outlet that hasn't been activated will not get you a signal. One of many reasons why I switched from Comcast to DirecTV.

Sounds like you're correct about Xfinity. We are able to use any of the several outlets in our home. It sounds like they're getting pretty much like Time Warner which we have in NY and love. BTW, there were a bit more than a few channels in basic. I was quite surprised on how many! However, we will be getting the HD box so we have advanced features when we return. ![]()

I am moving in June, and also a fan of DirecTV. For internet, I found the best bargain to be DSL. Nowhere in my TV literature can I find who controls the phone service. Anyone know?

DirecTV has partnered with CenturyLink for DSL and phone service. Basically, you get a $5 credit on your DirecTV bill. I went to their office in the Rolling Acres Plaza to see how much they charge. It turned out to be $15 per month more than Comcast for internet alone after the first year. I've also heard that their internet speed is also slower than Comcast. If you bundle phone service it might save you money. For us, we use cell phone, DirecTV and Comcast internet. Not happy with Comcast customer service but it's working out for now.
