The medical is pretty scary from what I see. Currently live near Charlotte and have access to Duke, Wake Forrest, etc. Real quality health care near TV is pretty weak from what I see. Please give me your thoughts and experiences. As with everything else, if nothing is wrong it doesn't matter but have a problem, oh boy!

Be sure to check out homes by owner, ReMax and Executive and Grizzard Realtors so there is plenty of places to shop for a home. Be sure to get the SunPaper it has a lot of offerings. Take your time and be really careful, do not impulse buy, that can happen.

You live in North Carolina. Most Floridians consider North Carolina a very nice place, when you get up around Grandfather Mountain it seems half the locals moved there from Florida.

Your health seems to be an issue and you apparently have great doctors in Charlotte.

You should not move.

We lived in Charlotte before moving here. I disagree.

The doctors were good. But there are not 2 medical schools within 2 hours of Charlotte for backup and, by specialty, there are comparable docs here in TV, with several subspecialty exceptions. And that's what the backups are for.

That's what I got out of it too.....seems not so many message board savvy folks on TOTV who know that adding in (tic) after posts like that let everyone get a chuckle, and know they said it "tongue in cheek"!! :)

Back to the original question: There was no TVH prior to 2012, so all the bally-hoo is a recent development. Prior to that, TV was just like any other community---you talked to friends and neighbors and chose a doctor. The tertiary care centers are in Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville and Jacksonville. If you have a concern over the quality of healthcare in TV, then you really are questioning the quality in all of Florida. Everything in life is a trade off, some places have better restaurants, some have better shopping. If extremely high quality healthcare with a "recognized" name is important to you, there should no problem buying in the inner city slum of Baltimore, right next to Johns Hopkins. I prefer it here; even at age 22 I declined the opportunity to go there for 4+ years, preferring the slum I knew in Brooklyn to the unknown slum.

I have been here five years and am still missing the security I felt having access to the JHH doctors.
PS - I did not need to live in a slum to see these wonderful doctors.

Sorry for not being around. Part time job and my party lifestyle have kept me busy.
Wow! Great stuff from everybody, well most everybody lol. Let me set it out in the open. Currently no major health problems, as I said above I do tend to party like a rock star. At least until 9:00 pm. Have had many friends, family and even my wife get major health issues and need quality care, unfortunately even with that some have passed on as the wife did 8 years ago at the age of 56. But life goes on.
I guess the day to day minor things can be handled in the area with some research. Major stuff...can always hop a plane and go where need be. Dentists seem to be a MAJOR problem from what I've read, and I do like my teeth!!! Need to address that.
Not overly concerned by "The Developer", as with any business like this, what's good for them in the long run, will probably be good for us in a different way.
The advice on realtors is rock solid and am doing due diligence on that now.
Sorry for being long winded but I feel if people take the time to answer at least I should respond.
Feeling like I have friends there already, just need to sort through them. I'M KIDDING!!!!
Keep it coming as I think others considering TV will appreciate the info.

You'll fit right in as the squares close at 9 PM. :1rtotfl:
When you start the day early in the morning, 9 PM will be time for one to go to bed. There are several places open till 12 or 1 AM

Sorry for the loss of your wife. :(

The developer has done a great job in building this paradise and it is kept immaculate!

The upside is so big that I personally don't think healthcare should stop one from moving down. IMHO

There are several singles groups you can join.

I haven't regretted moving here!

You should apply for the TV philosopher-in-residence position. [emoji106]

Thanks for the thoughts 2BNTV. It's been a interesting eight years now to say the least.
Living just outside of Charlotte should be a plus but I'm not 35 years old, not too much for a aging rock and roller!!!
As to joining groups, remember what Grouch Marx said,"I'm leery of a club that would have me as a member"!!! LOL
And being out to 12 or 1 might happen once in awhile but they better have a HUGE supply of spirits!
This is such great stuff from all of you.

Thirty five years up north we have both had all healthcare with the best doctors at one of the most famous and best hospitals in the US and maybe the world.
IMO and many others TV is absolutely awesome, we love it...
Solution : Downsize up north, keep your healthcare (need it more now than ever as we get on the back nine) schedule all appt may thru October. And if $$$ is an issue... Simply downsize in TV too.
Healthcare is a major reason for this but another important one is not leaving an area and family that we hv always lived in..

I live in TV and still work in health care, involved in out patient surgery centers and then some. There are a couple of specialists here doing excellent work but they are few and far between. For major stuff I'd recommend UF in Gainesville/Shands Hospital -- university, teaching institution, trauma center, highly rated. However, locally are a couple of great internists, and several surgeons who are outstanding.

paulascorpio 09-10-2016 09:10 PM

We moved here 2.5 years ago. My husband developed Multiple Myeloma. I was terrified, especially not knowing where to go for medical.
We are 55m from Shands Hospital in Gainesville. It is one of the only Trauma centers in the South. It is a teaching hospital. It is one of 13 Bone Marrow Transplant Units in the country. Shands has it's own Dental Hospital, Heart Hospital, Orthopedic Hospital, Children's Hospital, Cancer Hospital, etc etc etc. My husband's care has been exceptional. We were originally from the North East. I feel blessed to live in this community with this caliber of medical care so close! I have also found great physicians through word of mouth for an Endo, Cardiologist and Internist. They are all terrific. So do not worry about medical. I have a brother-in-law who is a surgeon in Pennsylvania and a nephew in Rhode Island who is ENT cancer and they BOTH say Shand's is tops!! I love living here..........you'll never find neighbors like you find in The Villages. I feel so lucky that I chose to live here. My neighbors and I say that we are growing young again together. I love waking up in The Villages. Good luck in your decision.
