Leesburg is operated by the holding company that also operates TV Regional Hospital. Leesburg has an excellent cardiac and open heart program. Therefore it makes perfect sense for TV to stabilize and transfer cardiac patients to Leesburg. Excellent cardiac programs are very expensive and take time and talent to develop. Why duplicate something that already works. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Concerning health care: My wife was a first rate cardiologist in an elite practice in Indianapolis. I was a former medical librarian in university medical schools most of my career.
Like everywhere, there is a range of quality among physicians in the area. Our observation is the quality of physicians in TV is not particularly good. Florida, in general, is known for physicians gaming the system and ripping off Medicare. I, like a lot of others, have just been deceived and kicked out of TV Healthcare, to make higher profits from Advantage MEDICARE. The wife, goes to ZepherHills for her health care. If your major concern is health care, stay in Charlotte. There is no finer medical care (on average) than your area with Bowman Gray and Duke near by. But -- what the hay, there is more to life than longevity. Come to TV. If you are an active, curious, still bright person, there is more living to be done in TV in a month, than a year anywhere else. |
Welcome to the Gunshine state. Live between Orlando & Tampa for good health care... not here.

Charlotte is about 3+ hours from Duke. Gainesville, if you demand to go to a good teaching center, is 1.5 hours from TV. I feel comfortable selecting hospitals and physicians. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
Healthcare here is what you make of the research you do - you can find good docs and decent providers if you look - if you just "settle" you won't like it, just as so many despise TVH. There are outstanding research/cancer/cardiac hospitals in the surrounding area (Tampa, Orlando, Gainesville) - if you need specialty care, there's few states where you can find better physicians. Also, don't look for "truth or consequences" on this forum - you can't say anything negative or you get hammered. Best concept - come down, rent during the winter months (when the population is at its' peak) and figure out if you like it/can take it/get involved/get a Dr's appointment, and talk to people live. It's all about your involvement and desire to do things - the more you research and get involved, the more you find out - and most likely, the more you will like it.

U of Florida in Gainesville is a little over an hour away. The Mayo Clinic in southern Jacksonville is about 2.5 hours away. I have been to both and have been quite happy with the outcome.

So....why would you say that? Are you MD, RN, PA or other person with a reasonable healthcare background. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The o.p.'s wife died fairly young. He wants to live life, not live at the hospital door because he's sickly. (At least that's what I got from it.) O.P. can rest assured that 115,000 villagers are not here because we're stupid or don't care if we have quacky doctors. It's like anywhere else: you do your homework, get a primary doctor you trust, and if needed, go to the specialists the primary and others recommend here in the TV area. If it's something rare or other specialists can't handle it, Gainesville, Orlando and Tampa are all and hour or hour and a half away by car. Live your life while you have it. Some people die at 25 and aren't buried until 75. --Benjamin Franklin . |
