What would you buy after all your research and for what reason. Example, I would buy a villa because, a two bedroom because, a house ( of a certain size because).

Just thought this would be fun for all to find out what we have all learned in our do's and don't of life.

Thanks,

aj
Hi artie, Noticed your post had lots of looks but no answers. The above was a recent thread started by ajdeck (screen name). You might also try running a search or maybe Nuts & Bolts might help though that is really more informational. We just bought our lot last week in Sanibel (one of the pioneers) so I, also, look to TOTV for ideas, information, etc.
Congrats and good luck!

Hi Artie,
Welcome to TOTV. Here are some things you might want to consider:

Orientation of your lanai: Some prefer east-facing, as the afternoon sun can be so hot. Others like west-facing. Worth considering if you have a choice.

Two-and-a-half garage: If there's room on your lot and in your budget, most people here like as much garage space as possible, since there are no basements.

If you think you might want to expand your lanai or add a pool or birdcage or expand another area of the house at some point, orient your home to leave room on the affected side.

Attic stairs and solar tubes are very popular additions, the attic stairs for storage the tubes for more light.

If you are planning any upgrades, do some shopping around in advance to determine if you could do them cheaper during or after building. Some say they get better prices after. Also, check TOTV and Villages Warranty office for references on any contractors you might use.

Here is a link to a wonderful three-part post by my dear friend and neighbor Zcaveman. It's a great checklist of things you will need to take care of when you get here.

Congratulations on your decision to move to Lower Paradise!

There are none at this time. Be sure to make sure your sales rep is aware that you are interested. He/she will be the first to know of any.

Pzjay, If you don't mind me asking, when do you plan to start building your home in Sanibel?
