Default Ge refrigerator problem

If you have a GE Refrigerater /Bottom freezer Profile model beware. There is a service bulliten out about a deffect in the freezer unit. If the food, milk etc in the refrig. start to freeze call them for service. There is a defective flapper in the freezer that alows the freezer air to leak into the refrig. It's only supposed to open when refrig is warm & then close when it reaches proper temp. Well they're not all closing. Beware!!

That is not the only model that has that problem. Three year ago, I purchased a GE side by side (Artica) for $2K. One of their top of the line models. Bought GE because the last one I had lasted 20 plus years with excellent service. This new GE has been the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned. Has the same problem (and more) of freezing everything in the refer side. Never again. Not GE.

This is the same way I felt after I bought my last GM car in the 70s. Burn me once but never twice.

We have a GE side-by-side and just had to have the flapper replaced (1 1/2 years old). Plus, while the repair guy was here we bought a new water filter from him. When he went to replace the old one, as soon as he turned it to remove it, water started gushing out of it. It turns out the shut off valve for the water filter was stuck in the open position. The only way to get the water to stop was to pull the refrigerator away from the wall and turn it off at the shut-off valve at the wall. (I'm glad I didn't try to replace it myself since I was unaware of the shut-off valve in the wall.) Fortunately we are still under the extended warranty that the builder provided when we bought. While we have had no mechanical problems with the GE dishwasher, I hate the way they designed the racks - there is no accomodation for anything but flat dishes.

Based on this experience, I will never buy GE products again.

All of the above posts have me shaking my head in agreement. We've had nightmare issues with GE. Yes, our kitchen was flooded due to changing the filter and the flapper in the freezer that doesn't operate the way it is suppose to???? Ours didn't either so ... the repairman litterally used a torch, heated the plastic and re-shaped the flapper. I do believe I am on a first name basis with all the local GE repairmen. Fortunately, I kept a running record of each part that had to be replaced on our side x side....always was something regarding the freezer. I would always ask just exactly what part it was that was being replaced and would make a note of it...FINALLY, after 2 yrs and alot of headaches the unit was deemed a lemon. Yes, it was replaced but of course with another unreliable GE. When this current one of mine goes, it will be the last GE brought into my home.

A follow-up on my post above. Our flapper was replaced last Saturday. Today I went to pour some milk on my cereal and, you guessed it, out came ice crystals..
