Default Golf Cart

If I am renting a home that comes with a golf cart - Do I need to get golf cart insurance?? How does that work?

I do not think you need to go out an buy golf cart insurance but you will be liable for an accident so you should make sure that your current home owners/renter's and auto policy will cover you. I would write to them so you have documentation of the answer. If they do not cover yourthem you need to get insurance if you do not want to assume the liability. If you owned the cart a one year policy would be under $100.

I just rented a home in July that comes with a cart. I had to sign a form that I was responsible for any damages and I would pay for any fees associated from lawsuits etc. with my using the cart.

If the home owner does not provide insurance, I would purchase my own policy if you can as a renter. Cart insurance is less than $100 a year. Good question for your insurance agent.

I would check with either an attorney or Florida insurance agency. From what I understand, if a homeowner rents his house and it includes a golf cart - the homeowner is liable for any liability caused by a renter driving the cart.

I understand it is very hard to find an insurance company that will write or include on a policy, a rented home with golf cart included.

No owner wants to chance a huge liability judgement and wipe out all they have worked all their lives to obtain.

I have talked to a couple landlords and they are excluding golf carts from their rental agreements. When we used to rent we could not get insurance since we did not own the golf cart. It's all about assumption of risk.

Yes and the person who was injured will sue everyone he can so you should cover yourself.
