Default Hello from South Florida

My wife and I currently live in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Moved down here from Long Island, NY in 2005. Wanted an adult community but unfortunately there is not much to do here. Currently actively looking at The Villages as a possible move.

I have heard it is great, but can be really crowded. I would be interested in any and all comments regarding this area. I look forward to participating in this forum.
Thank you

to the TOTV forum. If you'll do a search here there are several posts on the crowded subject. Mostly the winter months Dec-April.

I'm just a wannabee, but if you are thinking of moving to TV, you might want to try contact The Villages sales office about getting a Lifestyle Preview Visit during high season to see if TV is too crowded for you. I have only visited TV during the summer and fall, so visiting TV during high season is something I will also have to experience some time. However, I have lived in the Chicago area for over 30 years so perhaps I would not notice the high season crowds as much as someone coming from a small town.

Keep reading and posting on TOTV -- this is a treasure trove of info. about moving to and living in TV

Schaumburger, sorry to take this off topic for a minute, but have you stayed in TV in October? We're thinking of visiting in Oct. and curious about the crowds and weather. Tks.

I wouldn't live anywhere else! Plenty to do, wonderful people, great restaurants, entertainment, great neighborhoods, travel most everywhere by golf cart, so many swimming pools, beautiful rec centers, more crowded in the winter months but you get to meet more friends...and did I mention I wouldn't live anywhere else? Try a lifestyle visit or rent a house for a week or a month. I think you are gonna like it here!

My wife and I are in Ft Lauderdale we bought here and are now living here. I heard that it takes more waiting for about 3 months of the year and that some people who live hear year round eat home more then. But it really is fun here. Lots to do and. Not only in TV but also within an hour or less ride from here.

Yes, it can be crowded, especially in the winter months, however if you are looking for things to do there is no better place to retire. No matter what your interests, you will find other like minded people here to socialize with. It's a friendly place and most just want to relax and enjoy their lives. I would suggest you rent here for a couple of months and immerse yourself in the lifestyle, then you will know if it is right for you.

DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE CROWDS! I have posted on this subject numerous times. We had visited here in April twice, and this year rented for February and March. Having read all the hand-wringing over the crowded conditions in the winter, we were really wondering just how bad it would be. I am here to tell you it is a piece of cake. We ate out almost every evening for two months, and had more than a 10 or 15 minute wait perhaps 3 to 4 times. We played golf on the executive courses on average five times a week, and were unable to get tee times twice in two months. Traffic, both car and cart, was slightly more than in April, but nothing like it is in any large city in the U.S. We got a seat at one of the squares every time we went, which was an average of five nights a week. The only time it was overly crowded was on St. Patricks Day, and even then we got a good parking spot, found seats at S.S., and got into Athens NY after about a ten minute wait. For year-round residents, I am sure it seems crowded in the winter when comparing it to the rest of the year, but again I say, comeon in, the water's fine.

We have rented 6 or 7 times, all times of year, and find it very exciting! We move to TV this week and find no issues. If things are a bit crowded/crazy, we stay home that day. We, however, are folks that love to cook at home and use the odd night out as an outing.

ugotme:

to TOTV. I see this is your first post.

Plenty of smart members and this is a fun site.

My son lives in Ft. Laudedredale. I found when in TV, your in another world, as there is so much to do and be enjoyed.

Keep on posting.

I moved here from Boynton Bch. Fl. 2 years ago and let me tell you compared to Lauderdale this place isn't crowded as compared to where you live. I moved out of S. Fla. to get away from the crowds, I95, and traffic in general. You only need to speak english here and people are friendly. I lived in S. Fla for 59 years. Our summers are hot as in Lauderdale, but the humidity is quite a bit lower and more tolerable and our heat doesn't last as long as living south of Lake Okeechobee. Winters are cooler and maybe 3 or 4 day out of the year it gets in the high 20's but warms up into the 50 and
60's by noon.
As far as something to do, you'll find you won't have enough time here to do everything you want. Nice problem.
