Default Moving Question

To all TOTV members:

Still a wannabe but I was wondering what everyone's experience has been when moving to TV. It seems there are so many things to accomplish.

"How long does it take to be finally settled into a new home after purchasing it"?

Talk Host, Tony, and or administrator:

I meant to post this in the general discussion forum. Can this post be moved?

I am so sorry.

We did it in ten days to include drivers license, lic plates, insurance, modifications to the house and a lot more, but we are retired military and have done this type of thing all our adult lives. We have neighbors that have been here for 6 months and still have unpacked boxes in the garage. This question can only be answered by you and it depends on how much time you wish to dedicate to the task. Welcome and best of wishes, and I assure you that this is the best place in the world to be retired.

Lou Card:

I reponded to your post about having nothing nice to say.

You do have something nice to say.

I LOVE YOU MAN. The best of man is when he can change his mind about something he was sure of in the past.

My thoughts are: you'll be done when you're done!

Bear in mind that I came here as a single, accompanied only by my cat. Since he was perfectly happy taking in all the sights from the lanai, he wasn't much help.

But, my younger daughter came down a month after I'd arrived (on her dime!). She was a huge help in deciding where to put my paintings, framed photographs and such. After that, she went home!

But, I hated boxes in the garage, so after a couple of months they were gone, and all the necessary things (car plates, driver's license and such) were done.

Of course, you don't need to know about the half-dozen boxes hiding in the second walk-in closet!

It took all summer to buy or bring the furnishings, coming down in week or two week visits. Then when we were here for the winter we finished with the accessories, but I don't think this counts since we don't have all of our stuff here because we are snowbirds. We now have two houses full of stuff and we are aiming for one and live here permanently.

We pulled trailers twice, one a big and one a little one. And came down with our Chrysler van bulging several times.

When we make the big move it will be another story. I think we will use Pods and get the help of strong men for fifty dollars an hour to unload the Pods. Friends have used them, and I can't think of the name. Villages movers?

Also retired military and have moved at least 2 dozen times. I've never been fully moved in. But I did feel sufficiently moved in after about 3 weeks to dust off the clubs and try to get back into the game. Maybe I'll try to organize the garage after the weather cools down.... or not.

Gracie,

For $50 per hour, how many men does that pay for? Also, where do you get these strong men? You don't ship them in the POD from Ohio, do you!

P.S. Can't wait to meet you....

Gracie, why are you selling your house when you move here? I too have a Camellia and love it. Are you going to something bigger/smaller?

You know, I am not sure. We have that Camellia furnished and I love it. BUT we have a bunch of stuff from our house in Ohio. AND we have three of us with our dear daughter Helene. The Camellia has a big master, but the other two bedrooms are kinda small.

We furnished the Camellia all cottagy and beachy and painted the walls a shoreline blue and it is full of white and medium woods and pretty warm climate things.(I have some pictures posted in my album here of our Camellia, if you look at our house in the pictures and don't like it ,please lie) We just love it...HOWEVER our house in Ohio is full of good stuff accumulated over the years and the Frugal German ancestors would roll in their graves if I just....got rid of it. So...I am going to have to get clever with rather dark, formal good stuff and make it work. sigh.

I have hijacked yet another thread...Back to the question of how long did it take to get settled. Sorry.
