Comcast, my Internet provider for 5 years, has sent me a letter doubling my monthly fee to $74.95/month plus taxes and fees for second fastest speed even owning my own modem.. I have resolved a little of this expense temporarily by numerous calls. QUESTION: Are seniors in The Villages singled out for rising fees? Is there any regulated limit on these fees? Is this a question for the "Over 55 Rip Off Protection group"? Would a petition letter to the State Attorney General shine some light on this?

WOW!! That is a huge increase. One of my friends just eliminated his hi-speed internet. In place, he upped his data plan on his smart phone and turned it into a hot spot. He then tethered all his wireless devices at home (printer, computer) and now takes care of all his wireless needs.
Worth checking!

Just call Comcast and tell them it is too much for you to pay. Before you look at alternatives, you just want to see what they can do for you. They will probably offer you a year at $29. Or maybe the highest speed for $39. It has worked for me before.

I always call Comcast when I know my pricing promotion is ending or I'm off from seasonal hold and I ask them what promotion am I eligible for. We do it up north and in The Villages. Flip 'em your 'senior card' asking them for a discount. Knock on wood but it's worked for us for years and years. Hope I'm not speaking too soon but no one ever likes to loose a customer.

before I had them, I read all the remarks about comcast and price increases and poor customer service and I kept an open mind. Having had them for a few months and experienced the customer service part, I'm afraid I have to join the naysayers. Plus, they tried to stick my son with a $90 charge for not returning his equipment at his college apartment. When he called them, they said they had received the equipment. So I have to wonder if they just send these letters out hoping unsuspecting parents will pay it. They left all the cables exposed on the outside of my house--they did not fit in the box so they just left them there. I paid $89 for installation services and the buy didn't even connect two of my televisions so when I did, I ended up having to call to find out how they worked. Brighthouse you just plugged the cable in and it worked. Comcast has to have their digital adapters (at almost $3 per month for each) and then you have to use one of their remotes. I'm waiting for the first price increase when I will switch to someone else. We used to complain about Brighthouse back in St. Pete, but I'd give anything to have them back.

I took all my equipment back to Comcast when my Internet and Cable (no land phone) went to over $200.00 a month without a reasonable explanation. With me it was principle--Comcast customer service---worse than awful---don't have a word for it.

This is a very competitive market and government's attempts to control capacity make it more so.
Having said that Comcast is growing leaps and bounds and despite that fact they have been a good carrier for me. I bundled everything together and it has worked well for me. My only complaint is I want them to a way to find a way to include my cell phone. |

as I said, I'd hope to be one of those that found them to be capable and honest. That has not been the case. If they have grown too big to supply decent customer service, then it's time to stop growing and work on their problems.
