We just got back from spending two weeks in our new CYV and can't wait to return. Loved it. BUT didn't have an outdoor grill and tried to grill a steak using our grillpan with the overhead fan. Fan was worthless. We could hear it running but it was not sucking up, if you know what I mean. Has anyone else had this experience? These are brand new appliances but maybe the fans are cr*p.

Hi Raen Dear,
Our fans in the CYV's don't vent to the outside, so you're not going to get the same kind of draw. Won't eliminate pasta steam for example, just circulate it. To me, they are more of a filter than an exhaust fan. A true, outside vented range hood is probably the only luxury I miss not having here, but I don't plan on doing the same kind of cooking that I used to do. Now, if you checked out both speeds on YOUR fan and you really can't feel anything happening at all, maybe your new fan has a problem and needs replacing. |

I would like a big vented range hood but have a few other things on my list first. Incidentally, I was remembering when I used to make souffles. Hahahahaha. Maybe a cobbler these days, if I feel really ambitious. |

if it's GE or whirlpool, they have 3 options. Out the back, straight up(would require a drywall chase to the ceiling), and back into the kitchen. You need to be on an outside wall to go out the back.

If you hood is against the garage wall you can vent out the back of the hood, into the garage, and up thru the roof to avoid having a boxed in duct over the top of the hood. (also avoids using space from the cabinet above, assuming there is one). Most microwaves have that option of venting up or out the back, but you must position the blower to match which ever option you're using. See microwave installation instructions.
