A young man, perhaps around 20 years old, knocked on my door last week and told me he was washing windows for my neighbors and asked if I wanted a quote. I didn’t say a word but pointed to my “no soliciting” sign. His response was: Oh, I thought it said “no singing”. I closed the door. Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.

I am happy to answer the door, and with great success they leave immediately. No hassle, no threat, no signs.
Why I speak Cantonese when I open the door…they just leave. Any language will do except for Spanish.. |

Cantonese? Yah. I would leave, too. 🙄

Put a "No Soliciting" sign above your doorbell. Just like with spam calls, don't answer when someone unknown or unexpected rings. You have no idea what solicitors' real intentions are.

I just presented as annoyed as I had rolled out of bed to answer . They stopped. |

Sure, TV can put up a sign, but it's not enforceable and would never be binding upon private property. |

This is correct. The no soliciting "rule" is there to dissuade soliciting. But it has no meat to it. No one can be prevented from walking down the street. And "The Villages" could never make a rule that determines who is and who is not allowed on my property.

You don’t HAVE TO answer the doorbell. The law doesn’t require you to do that. When I moved to my current house, a handful of people showed up. Sometimes I pretended that I wasn’t home. If I did open the door, I just said no thanks. They didn’t come back.

Please refrain from doing that in the future. |
