Default Pesky Contractors at Door

Just wanting to find out how all these companies and people figure out when you close on your home and show up at your door step the minute you walk into your new home? Is there a way to get off that list? Thank you

It's a matter of public record...

Tell them they are uninvited trespassers and to leave immediately or you will call the police.

Unfortunately it's a matter of public record.

If you want to discourage them from ever returning, and maybe tell all their friends to not bother - while not threatening violence or the police, just be a curmudgeon.

[answer door]
Just stand there and wait for them to say something. If it's about them, being interested in cleaning your vents, mowing your lawn, fixing your driveway, selling you insurance, inspecting your roof, etc...

"Get offa my property ya <expletive expletive expletive> I <expletive> swear to <expletive> Christ you people are a <expletive expletive expletive>"

No threats needed. Just be whatever you consider your idea of being really rude is. Trust me. They won't come back.

Whittle a pistol butt, have it sticking out of the waist band, and when answering the door, just dead eye the caller, and say, "WHAT!"

Hard to prevent them from initially showing up. However how the homeowner handles such people can go a long way toward assuring that they don't come back.

Some years back, up in Minnesota, we were approached by a guy who claimed he was representing a whole-home security system company, and that he could install such a system in our home for HALF OFF THE USUAL PRICE. The kicker was that he was in town only for that day, and we would have to act on it immediately or lose our chance.

I remember replying, very seriously; "I HAVE security. .38 caliber security. My wife, too".

He left VERY quickly.

My neighbors who have been here much longer than me claim "soliciting" is not allowed in The Villages.

I think it is true because my statement to them is; ' why would I do business to a business that craps on our rules? why would I want to do business with criminals.? '
and they turn-around and leave the neighborhood quickly.

And if this is not true, why don't we make it a rule or law? Nobody wants door-to-door solicitation.

There is an unenforceable rule of no soliciting in The Villages. Some of the gate entrances even have a no soliciting sign. But, there is a Florida State law (501.022) that requires a permit to solicit. However, apparently the law doesn't specify a penalty for soliciting without a permit, so it would be difficult to enforce. However, anyone coming to your property to solicit is required to show you their state permit.

Excellent! I'll borrow this one, if you don't mind.
