what are the frequency of tornadoes there? does anyone build safe rooms - ie a re-enforced inner room? what is cost? is it an un-necessary investment?

frequency....now and then
anyone build safe rooms..........there are probably a few in central Florida
re-enforced inner room............havn't heard of that in TV

Texas A&M has conducted many trials on safe rooms. Look on Google

Someone I know has an underground metal shelter in her garage here in TV. Don't know the cost.

You can build a home with solid concrete pours that would be pretty safe from Florida tornados which are rare and usually f1 or F2. I think a safe room could be built for less than 15,000. The tornado that hit TV a few years ago I believe was a F3 or F4 when it got to Lady Lake where some died. No fatalities in TV.

If you drive to the town of Crystal River (about 1 hour) you can see a store selling tornado shelters. They look exactly like a septic tank. I imagine you would place it in your golf cart garage and get into it when a tornado warning comes.

These are a few photo's of my last home in Wesley Chapel, FL, an hour south of The Villages. This happened about 3 1/2 years ago. It wasn't even classified as a tornado and just my luck, only hit my house out of about 2,000 homes in the neighborhood. Thank God for insurance but it was quite scary as I was home when it happened. They are correct when they say it sounds like a train. I'm still a little skiddish of storms, needless to say.

I seriously doubt that, it still has windows and a wood roof.

it's not THAT the wind is blowing; it's WHAT the wind is blowing.

If either a frame or concrete house is hit the structure and contents R toast, best U can hope for is you're not in it.

I would not base buying concrete v frame on that rare occurrence.
In fact I opted for frame it has better insulation.

A vault in the floor or an interior room is the best way to save your life, but will U get an alert, will such an alert work at that time with the likely complacency of such an event not happening?

Time to back you're car or cart out to get into the vault?

thanks to all the replies on my question -- used to hurricanes coming up coast of Maine, saw several tornadoes from a distance when living in SC, but never near or in one.. guess like the majority will take my chances. again thanks all that weighed in on this - appreciated.
