Default Fiat-Chrysler Recall

Has any owner been notified of this recall? I was reading my "hometown" newspaper (Oil City, Pa) and found the article... owning one of the vehicles, I was concerned. Called the dealership this AM and was told they do not have information regarding repairing the cruise control and stated I should be getting a letter within the next couple weeks..... seems like a long time waiting to be notified. Glad I read the "old hometown news".
DETROIT (AP) — Fiat Chrysler is recalling more than 5.3 million vehicles in the U.S., Canada and elsewhere because in rare but terrifying circumstances, drivers may not be able to turn off the cruise control. The company is warning owners not to use cruise control until the cars, SUVs and trucks can be fixed with a software update.* Affected models include the 2014-2019 Ram 1500 pickup, as well as the 2014- 2018 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500 and 5500 pickups and chassis cab trucks. Also covered are the 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, the 2014-2018 Chrysler 300, the 2017 and 2018 Chrysler Pacifica minivan. Dodge vehicles included are the 2015 to 2018 Challenger, and the 2014 to 2018 Charger, Journey and Durango, while affected Jeeps include the 2014 through 2018 Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and the 2018 Wrangler. Fiat Chrysler will begin notifying customers as early as next week. The company is urging customers to follow the recall instructions and get the repairs done as soon as possible. If by chance you mistakenly use your cruise control and it gets "stuck" shift into neutral and roll to a safe spot beyond the roundabout and pull over. Our oldest son has a Fiat and he got the letter, you did a good thing letting others know. Thank's.

I have a 2016 RAM and have had some weird cruise control issues. I often have to push the on/off button several times before I can get it to come on and I have had a couple of cases where I push the cancel button when cruise is activated and it does not cancel the first time and I have to push it again. However, it always cancels if I tap the brake pedal. These issues weren't present when the truck was new but seemed to start after the first software upgrade I loaded. My software is up to date and I checked my uConnect account and there are currently no recalls for my VIN.

Noting the info in the above article, I think I would be inclined to NOT use the cruise control until the notices come out..... if the dealership does not have the info yet, maybe uConnect doesn't either.....

Who in their right mind would drive on local roads with roundabouts with the cruise control on?

Some do venture away from Morse and Buena Vista from time to time. I live in Fenney and always set my cruise once I cross 44 on 468 because it is often crawling with po-po just waiting for someone zooming down the road.

Are there any roundabouts on 468 before Fenney?

Ah, sorry, I read your response but not so much what you responded to. No roundabouts (yet). However I have yet to attempt a roundabout with cruise activated. Haha

Well it might be used by some people between roundabouts and if by chance it would not disengage as per the recall they put it in neutral and roll to a safe spot. See I was trying to be helpful I guess you don't use your cruise as much as we do. It keeps you from speeding and comes on and off normally with the touch of a button on the steering wheel which is instinctive after some time. I'm the one obeying the law in the right lane creating no problem.

People may not have thought of popping the transmission into neutral when the cruise wouldn't turn off. Perhaps someone like you may turn off the ignition and loose your power steering and brakes and run up on the curb in or around a roundabout and injure me a friend or a family member. I don't know you, or your driving skill set so if it applies to you its my free gift if it doesn't apply move on.

Unrelated but similar, people have died because in a emergency they were supposed to dial nine eleven on their phone and could not find the eleven button. We all know the number would be Nine, One, One. Got the picture? Good. Can you imagine being in the middle of a life changing emergency and you can't find the eleven button on your Phone?
