Smile The 3 Little Pigs: The moral of the story then and now

I assume most people have heard this story in first grade or possibly before that.

Once upon a time there were 3 little pigs, 2 of which became breakfast for the big bad wolf. This is my own version of it as I remember it from school.

The story begins with the 3 pigs trying to decide what materials they should use to build their house. One pig said he would like to build his house of straw because it would be easy to build and would give him more time to play. Another said he would like to use twigs, for the same reason. The third little pig said he would build his house of bricks so it would be strong enough to keep the wolf from blowing it down, and he warned the other two that theirs would not be strong enough. At that the other 2 pigs laughed and told him he would be going to a lot of trouble and hard work for nothing.

So, you know how the story ended. 2 of the pigs became breakfast for the wolf, and the one in the brick house lived happily ever after.

When I was a kid, the moral of the story was: Be realistic and plan ahead.

Today the moral of the story is: Don't impose your reality and plans on others just because their plans are not up to your standards. In other words, the 3rd. little pig shouldn't have criticized the other two for making poor choices.
