I agree. Checks and balances. State attorneys take an oath to protect the public in many states. If our protection is worth it, even the playing field.

California proposed $659 million in their 2023-2024 budget (The 2023-24 Budget: Department of Justice Budget Proposals ).

Yes, in CA they do not budget for law suits and it causes great financial turmoil. I worked for that state and handed the ADA law suits for my division and section. To answer another question posted: outside of the state lawyers can be very useful because they may have knowledge of certain federal rulings and procedures. Hopefully this post is not seen as political as I was merely answering a question about state budgets and did not start the original post.

Ah, they may have started budgeting since I retired. That number is not nearly enough tho. They have several law suits that have been going on for decades and require them to pay for the plaintiffs attorneys to audit them however many times per year they like.
