Also Budget car rentals. I go visit my children and rent a car on some trips. Just recently, the Budget AARP rate was $160 - $170 for a sedan (depending on size up to full size). Same car non AARP was $290 or more at Budget or Enterprise or Alamo. You have to enter the AARP member code on your account but then it stays there. Discount is about twice what my husband can get as a retired airline employee.

On hotels, always check ALL the discounts you are eligible for. AARP can be more, but I have found sometimes AAA is.

Also UPS Stores give AARP discounts. Otherwise, you should check the list online of who offers discounts. I pretty much always forget to even check except for travel lol

Great discount on AARP/United Healthcare Supplemental G - only reason I have it.

I made the mistake 20 years ago of joining AARP for one year, then cancelled the subscription. I STILL get mail from them. I've moved twice and somehow they get my address.

Very annoying.
In this day of computer nothing private if you do normal business. AARP and rest of supplemental insurance are mostly scam, they don’t make billions by paying out. But, do get some benefit. IMO the most worthless I insurance are dental and term life unless you die young.

I try to remember to ask everywhere. It takes a second, doesn't cost anything and you might get 10 or 15% off. Worst they can do is say no

The Hartford insurance for your car has been for me the most beneficial. You may find other places on the AARP site as also when subscribing to their email news

Well, the difference is:

One is a list of companies offering discounts.

The other is where "you" have used your card to get a discount.

Hope that helps your confusion.
