The instant message from my colleague said "I need some advise -a family crisis.. Can you do lunch?" Noon came and another ping "lets go" - it seems my colleagues disabled (car accident), divorced younger sister's unemployed, live-boy-friend had embezzled over $300k from her brokerage account; the remnants of 20+ years of marriage. It appears he somehow got hold of her password and changed the email address (so activity notifications went to his address) he even changed the benefiary.. To make matters worse it appears there has been misuse of funds at the old job and cards opened on the sisters name. The sister confronted the theif "it is all gone - I'll make it right"

As My friend told the story she was on the verge of crying; I asked if the sister has a lawyer yet (she has) I said call the police.

The things some people do.. Robbing a disabled woman- I went home and hugged the wife.

The bum is probably also stealing from "the taxpayer", in the form of disability medicare, social security, etc. that widows, orphans and elderly citizens need and deserve.

i would definitely consult a lawyer...I would think that the brokerage house may still be responsible for paying out that much money without contacting her
