Default Attic Storage

What kinds of items can safely be stored in the attics over garages? Pots and pans, glasses, and some tools come to mind....what are some others?

What things can NOT be so stored? I can figure out not to put candles or leftover pizza up there, what else would make the "No" list?

PEECHIE, old buddy...there you are!!! .

Been a long time since we've seen you online or in chat. November is coming... you making your semi-annual pilgrimage to TV? 2010 is around the corner...is this new decade still your magic number to retire?

To your question... we keep extra suitcases up there and other bulky (but not too heavy) things that are not heat sensitive. My knee-recovery walker, extra golf cart tires, extra paintings.

Hope to see you and Mrs Peechie soon.

What about Christmas decorations (i.e., artificial tree, ornaments, lights)? Are they safe in the attic?

I have been putting them up in the attic for eight years and have never had a problem. Just make sure that the candles don't go up there.

As has been posted, anything that will not melt is fine up there.

Thanks for the replies.....my guess is that a Florida attic would be 20-30 degrees hotter than on up north. Light things that don't melt.....good formula.

Has anyone had (bad) experience with soft plastic (as in zip lock bags or plastic bags) melting up there?

Also, photo-chemical stuff as in pictures or paintings?

And I take it no wicked witches.

We store a lot of ornaments and stuff in zip lock bags - no problem.

We do not put paintings up there but I suspect that oil based paintings would not fair too well.

I don't think it is much different from NJ in the summer. It does get hot up in the attic. It just lasts longer here in Florida. Same rules apply.
