Was wondering if anyone had suggestions on which beach would be best to take visiting family.

My opinion, depends if you like the bigger surf or not.

I like the gulf side since I prefer it calmer. Swim a bit, watch the seagulls, etc.
Sand Key park is a nice little place just south of the busier Clearwater Beach area.

On the gulf side, you get a little more wave action, I don't know that area as well, but for a day trip I'd think Daytona is fine.
Have fun

I would recommend Sanibel Island's beach over Pine Island...especially if you like to collect shells. It is absolutely beautiful there. However, it's a few hours drive south to get there.

stay away from Daytona this time of year, speed week, bike week, spring break, etc.

way too much traffic.

Try gulf coast, Treasure island area is nice, good souveniors ,swimming, parasailing, etc.

Pete,

Daytona this time of year rules!!!! We go every year and love it, some amazing sights to be seen!

Of course, if your in to peace and quiet your absolutely right. Stay far far away!

Nonie,

you are right about the activity, i did it for years. and w/ a 26 year old you are probably right. I just can't stand the crowds any more. I'm in the serenity mode.
