What a terrible day of deaths! First Robin now Lauren Bacall . My mother named me after her. Lauren was such an unusual name at the time . My best friend was named Veronica after Veronica Lake.

I hope she rests in peace. In the sixties, my husband did some work in her NYC apartment. She was not very nice to the workman, in fact, rude. He has always remembered her bad behavior, regardless of how good her movies were.

Her book about her life is well written and documents how she met Bogie, fell in love and married him.

Classy lady who had an unique "look".

RIP - Betty

Cool TRue

Elizabeth52, I know what your husband meant. I was returning from a Business trip one time in Los Angeles. She was standing about 5-10 feet away and said to an airline employee, "you don't expect me to stand around with these people, find me a private place". What was ironic about that was that about 10-20 feet in the other direction the Cosmo soccor team was waiting to board and Pele was waiting like everyone else. I asked Pele if he would sign an autograph for my son who was playing soccer in college. Not only did he sign one but he wrote a personal to my son who still has it. She was a true snob, impressed with herself while Pele was a terrific person.

I think the public often mistakes someone's on-screen persona for who they really are. I am so dissappointed when the image does not match the reality.

Default Its A Question Of Personal Value For Each Of Us

When it comes to celebrities they have the best PR people in the world. Some people confuse the real with the illusion and are leading with their chin. Best to assess their skill sets and leave it at that.

Apparently celebrity has greater value then solid contribution to society especially if celebrity is wrapped in tragedy such as an actors overdose or suicide . War heroes die, astronauts, great politicians die almost unnoticed and/or with little fanfare.

Sadly I realized my Son (a Millenial) does not know who she is.
