Default iPhone insurance question

Did you take out the iphone insurance?

On the new plans where one pays monthly for a new phone Verizon is pushing the insurance on the basis you would not want to be making payments on a phone that is lost or not working.

Face value seems to be a reasonable concern. But then I ask myself when was the last time I lost or damaged my phone....never....a long time!

Comments/suggestions appreciated.

My husband took out phone insurance when we got our Verizon phones. Took a glass bottom boat ride and my phone went into the river (don't ask!). Went to Verizon to replace it and insurance covered cost of current value. The catch was, we had to sign up for new plan for the phone and buy out balance of plan for old phone. So while it saved us money, I would advise to not drop it in river, toilet, etc.

I have paid for insurance and have replaced a phone thru the coverage. The replacement was a reconditioned phone and it still cost $100.

Cool

Before getting Verizon [or any other cell phone provider insurance], I would first check into Applecare. Apple will also replace the phone for, if I remember right, $50, even if you drop it in the toilet.

You get a lot of other stuff with Applecare too...support calls, etc.

It isn't cheap, but you normally get what you pay for.

Don't buy from Cell phone provider, too expensive. Look at SquareTrade.com. Much cheaper and better coverage.

Wish I had it on my old iPhone which went into the Swimming Pool on last years Amazon-Carnival Cruise on MS Oosterdam.

Waited till contract ran out and then could get a new one.
