Default MI woman dies from brown recluse spider bite.

Experts:

This death was up in Michigan but I know at least one person in the Villages who had quite a problem when a brown recluse bit her lower leg while she was out doing yardwork in the Lynnhaven neighborhood.

Creepy, but many thanks for sharing that information.....especially the photo. It was very interesting how these brown recluse spiders, among other critters/creatures/insects, might hitchhike from the south to the north........

Perhaps via a moving van?? I once bought a gorgeous armchair from a southern furniture store.......it had a huge HUGE HUGE SPIDER under the cushion.....spotted after the delivery man left. I assassinated it. Later felt lucky that I noticed it prior to sitting down as who knows when it might have creeped up the sides of the cushion.....?

Most of our furniture is manufactured in the south, even though we purchase it locally........so check out what lies beneath & between....

Thanks again.

The brown recluse spider is frequently found in the tall grassy areas around golf courses. Watch out when lifting your ball from these weeds. Also, that is a prime spot to find pygmy rattlesnakes.

Unhappy I was once chased by a spider!

Before I moved to The Villages I lived in a small town in central Florida. I had seen many spiders over the years while working outdoors, and inside repairing older homes. I never feared them.

But one day I entered an old vacant house, next door to where I lived, and I saw a BIG spider in the corner of a bedroom, near the ceiling. As I looked up at it, it jumped down in my direction and started running toward me. I didn't wait to see what was going to happen, I ran and jumped out of an open window. I never went back in that house again.

They are nasty, nasty bites. My wife is a NP and sees them from time to time in her work. If you get bit by a spider and you don't know what sort it is, it's best to go to your doctor or an Urgent Care Clinic and get it checked quickly. They are nothing to ignore.

I killed a couple of Black Widows at my house in St. James. One on the lanai and one in the laundry room. Yuck. I HATE spiders.

Here's a recent photo of a spider that was in a bucket of fertilizer that was in my garage in the UP of Michigan. I don't think it is a biter but it sure was gross!! You can see it's carrying it's egg sack.

Here's the spider I almost walked into at a rainforest eco lodge in Australia at our son's wedding. They're poisonous, but the lodge won't remove them unless they're in your room. You gotta watch where you're going!
