IMO GDI turbo engines may be new junk engines surpassed 1980s designs. IMO engine with fuel injection going down intake above valves don’t have severe carbon build up due to valves getting sprayed by fuel mist going to combustion chambers.

This Is My opinion I would not skimp on oil changes intervals with GDI (direct injected) engine especially With turbo which generates more heat and pressure on top piston ring groove.

IMO 2017 vehicle not that old to have major engine damage (but don’t know history?). By all slug buildup IMO looks like oil change intervals was too long? This all my opinion others may have different opinion which will probably not change mine.

My Toyota Tacoma comes with free oil/filter change every 10,000 miles, which I feel is too long. I will pay and have it changed every 5,000 miles.

I would be following up on those free oil changes make sure they did it. I have horror story from OKC about a dealership free oil changes, it wasn’t Toyota dealership.

The sad part Toyota will refuse to pull your free oil charge before 10,000 miles.

Agree - Using a Top Tier fuel and going no longer than 5,000 mi between oil changes on the small direct injection turbo charged engines is highly recommended.

The manufactures oil change interval is to get energy credits at the expense of your out of warranty engine life.

After the free oil changes on our Avalon they now recommend every 5,000 miles. Go tell.

It’s interesting, should the ring be blamed or the injectors ability to distribute/atomize the correct amount or even perhaps the air filter/ delivery system? One thing is for certain, the part does look cheaply made from Mexico.

If they are using Amsoil signature series oil, and a WIX XP oil filter, then that would be OK. I wouldn’t push any other synthetic oil past 7K. My Nissan Frontier is approaching 200k and doesn’t burn any oil after going 9k-10K between oil changes using exclusively the Amsoil/WIX combination. Hoping to get another 100k out of the Frontier.

The air filter is just as important but perhaps the most neglected. It’s also good to check your gaps on your plugs and change them out about every 30k. If you notice decreased gas mileage, get er done.

We live on a dirt road up north so replacing air filters frequently is imperative. We use nothing but K&N filters. Anyone traveling frequently in the construction dust bowl in the southern parts of the Villages should do the same.

Iridium plugs (which most newer cars use) are good for 100,000+ MLS.
It's a good idea to remove them every so often to prevent them from seizing in the aluminum block.

One of many wonders a 2 dollar envelope sized packet of anti seize grease can accomplish. No one likes hearing the words machinist when doing something that should be routine.
